Pics: Guangzhou Evergrande v Western Sydney Wanderers

On Wednesday night Western Sydney Wanderers became just the second Australian club after Adelaide United in 2008 to make the AFC Champions League semi-finals.

The Wanderers went into the match against Guangzhou Evergrande protecting a slender 1-0 lead after last week's quarter-final first leg at Pirtek Stadium.

And despite a 2-1 loss , the A-League side did just enough against the defending champions to advance on away goals.

Tomi Juric scored the crucial away goal from the penalty spot to give the visitors a shock lead 14 minutes after the break.

But goalkeeper Ante Covic was the real hero after saving a first-half spot-kick from Elkeson.

Goals from Alessandro Diamanti and Elkeson put it at 2-2 on aggregate and set-up a grandstand finish with the home side needing one more to advance.

But it was Tony Popovic's men who dug deep to pull off a momentous night for the club.
