Another from the Brisbane Roar 'future stars' production line, Devante Clut announced his arrival on the Australian football scene with an eyecatching performance against some quality La Liga opposition in pre-season. He comes in at 25 but with plenty speculating he is headed for the top.

It was perhaps fitting that Clut’s emergence was capped by a brace, and praise from the opposition coach, against European opposition. Villarreal coach Marcelino described his first goal – a 25-yard rocket – as ‘magnifico’. And it was just that, as a precise first touch allowed him to open up his body and lash a powerful strike into the top corner.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a fine campaign that also included a double, featuring another long-range strike, in an AFC Champions League clash against Suwon Bluewings.
“I’ve definitely learned more than I really thought I would have,” Clut said of his extended run in the Roar first team.
“You can read about it, watch it, but it’s not until you experience it that you really take in a lot more.”
Clut trained with Nike in Barcelona in 2012 and has kicked on since then, with a regular spot in the Roar first team just around the corner.
In his limited chances so far, Clut has had a big impact in the attacking third. He is busy in midfield, has a good touch – and a powerful shot he has already showcased.
HE SAID: “I think I can definitely keep it coming, I’ve just got to keep working hard and keep my feet on the ground, and next season will be bigger.”
THEY SAID: “He can hit a ball pretty powerfully. He’s got quick feet and a sharp turn … I think he’s going to be a big talent.” Kasey Wehrmancomments
