Aloisi: Errors costing Roar

Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi has urged his players to learn from the “bad mistakes” which forced them to come from behind in Friday night’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle Jets.

Roar led early through Jamie Maclaren’s second-attempt penalty at Suncorp Stadium but quickly coughed up the advantage, conceding twice in the space of the following 15 minutes.

Both goals were preventable as James Donachie lost Mitch Cooper for the equaliser before an inexplicable Corey Brown handball allowed Milos Trifunovic to put the Jets ahead from the spot.

Roar held by gutsy Jets

“We committed two bad mistakes at the back and then after that you take a while to get back into it because it’s a bit of a shock to you,” Aloisi said.

“It was a good performance in the second half. They couldn’t really get near us and we created a number of opportunities, but we only get one point out of it which is the disappointing part.

“The lesson is you can’t keep on making mistakes and expecting to get away with it.

“We got punished against Victory and Adelaide and again tonight we got punished. We have to cut that out of the game.”

Brisbane racked up a total of 23 shots to Newcastle’s seven but could only manage five on target throughout the 90 minutes.

Despite top-scorer Maclaren extending his season tally to 11 goals, Aloisi concedes his side can still improve in front of goal.

“I think when we’re getting into those areas we have to do a little bit better," he said.

"Sometimes we’re getting in behind them and not picking out a player as much as we would like.

“In saying that, sometimes when you’re chasing a game you start to snatch a little bit.

“That’s why you can’t afford to make those errors at the back because then you’re chasing the game and players start to get on edge.”

Aloisi is right about pointing to a number of mistakes which cost them dearly, however, this is happening far too frequently to just brush it aside. Brown was hopeless most of the time and should have been subs long before. This Aloisi didn't see! Yes, a lot of problems to overcome.
