Aussies Abroad update

The weekend saw plenty of action for Aussies abroad around the globe with a stack of goals being scored, including Dylan Macallister's double in Hong Kong, Bailey Wright giving his team a win in League One and Tommy Oar snatched a draw with his vital equaliser.

In the EPL Mark Schwarzer was an unused substitute again when Chelsea won 3-1 at struggling Fulham FC. Brad Jones shared his fate when Liverpool won 3-0 at Southampton. Chris Herd was not in the squad again when Aston Villa won 4-1 against Norwich with all goals being scored in the first half. Mile Jedinak played a full match in Crystal Palace’s 1-1 at Swansea.

In the Championship Alex Cisak remained on the bench in Burnley’s 2-0 win against Derby County. Also on the bench was Adam Federici in Reading’s 1-1 draw against Yeovil. Lucas Neill watched his first match for Watford from the sidelines too when the team recorded a massive 4-0 win against Blackpool. Rhys Williams was still sidelined due to his ruptured Achilles and was sorely missed when Middlesbrough lost 1-0 at Sheffield Wednesday. In Millwall’s 1-0 home loss against Brighton Scott McDonald came on for teammate Shane Lowry in the 59th minute.

In the English League One Bailey Wright played a full match again and also put his name on the scoresheet when he scored the winner in the 29th minute helping Preston North End to a 2-1 win against Walsall. Neil Kilkenny played 66 minutes for Preston. Bradden Inman had to leave the pitch early after 25 minutes when Crewe had 1-1 draw against Swindon where Massimo Luongo had another full shift. James Meredith was missing for Bradford due to his broke foot in their 3-2 home loss against Stevenage after leading 2-1 at half-time. James Wesolowski played a full match for Oldham and scored early after 12 minutes giving his team the lead. At the end Oldham recorded a 2-2 draw at Tranmere. Dean Bouzanis again was not in the matchday squad when Carlisle United had a scoreless draw against Brentford.

In the English League Two Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played a full match for Burton Albion in their 2-1 win against Accrington. Ryan Williams played 59 minutes when Oxford United lost 3-0 at Rochdale. Ben McNamara was absent again in Northampton’s scoreless draw against Bristol Rovers. Aaron Downes played a full match when Torquay United lost 3-0 at Hartlepool.

In the Conference Mitchell Austin played the last 15 minutes in Cambridge’s 5-1 win against Kidderminster Harriers with no Joshua Riis was in their match squad. Also Alex Baird was missed the squad for Gateshead in their 1-1 against Forest Green. Lee Burns played a full match when Darford went down 3-0 at Southport.

In the Conference North Jon Brady’s Brackley shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw against Harrogate. Adam Parkhouse played the last two minutes when Stalybridge Celtic lost 2-1 at Worcester.

In the Conference South Shane Huke was still missing for Ebbsfleet in their 3-0 win against Farnborough. Jamie Young was an unused substitute when Hayes & Yeading lost 1-0 against Havant & Waterlooville.

In the Bundesliga in Germany Borussia Dortmund won 3-0 against Nuremberg with Mitch Langerak on the bench and claimed the second spot from Leverkusen who lost 1-0 against Mainz with Robbie Kruse still being sidelined with his torn ACL.

In the 2. Bundesliga Ben Halloran was still missing due to his hip bruise when Düsseldorf won 2-0 against Arminia Bielefeld. Mathew Leckie played a full match and set up a goal giving his team a 2-1 lead at half-time. At the end Greuther Fürth won 3-2. Nikita Rukavytsya remained on the bench for Frankfurt.

In the 3. Liga Mustafa Amini was sidelined due to his bone bruise when Borussia Dortmund II lost 3-0 at Darmstadt.

In the Regionalliga West in Germany Kwame Yeboah played the last 17 minutes when Mönchengladbach hammered Fortuna Düsseldorf II 4-1.

In Italy’s Serie B Carl Valeri came on after 80 minutes in Ternana Calcio’s 2-2 at Spezia.

In the youth competition the Campionato Primavera Chris Ikonomidis played a full match for Lazio in their 1-0 win at Livorno which keeps then on top of the league. Paul Katsetis was on the bench for Catania when they suffered a 1-0 home loss against Palermo.

In the Primeira Liga in Portugal Caleb Patterson-Sewell stayed on the bench when Gil Vincente won 1-0 against his old club Vitória Setúbal.

In the Dutch Eredivisie Jason Davidson played a full match for Heracles Almelo when they lost 2-1 against Heerenveen. Trent Sainsbury was still missing with his fractured kneecap in Zwolle’s 3-3 draw against Nijmegen. Eli Babalj was absent again when AZ Alkmaar thrashed Waalwijk with a 4-0 win. Tommy Oar played a full match for Utrecht and put his name on the scoresheet giving his team the important 1-1 equaliser. Adam Sarota also played a full match in Utrecht's 1-1 against Twente.

In the Dutch Eerste Divisie SC Telstar won 3-1 against Venlo. Andrew Marveggio was an unused substitute for Telstar while Harry Ascroft made his senior debut coming on for Venlo after 39 minutes. Travis Cooper was not in Venlo’s matchday squad.

In Turkey’s SüperLig Kerem Bulut was missing again for Akhisar Belediyespor when they won 2-1 against Bursaspor.

In the 2. Lig in Turkey Emre Balcı came on for the last 17 minutes when İnegölspor lost 1-0 at Dardanelspor.

In the 3. Lig Savas Özdemir played a full match when 1930 Bafraspor lost 1-0 at Gölcükspor.

In Belgium’s Eerste Klasse Mathew Ryan played a full match and kept a clean sheet in the top of the table clash. His team Club Brugge KV scored the only goal of the match giving them a 1-0 win against leaders Standard Liège.

In the Greek Superleague Apostolis Giannou played in the first half when Panionios GSS drew 1-1 with AEL Kalloni.

In the Football League in Greece Giannis Simosis did not play when Anagennisi Karditsa won 3-1 at Giannitsa.

In the Greek Football League 2 Billy Konstantinidis played 80 minutes when Panserraikos were still putting pressure on the league leaders with a 4-1 win at Kosmio. Billy struggled playing 60 minutes with a shoulder injury. Niko Tsattalios also played for Kambaniakos in their 1-0 win at Pyrsos.

In Austria James Holland played a full match when Austria Wien recorded a narrow 2-1 win against Wacker Innsbruck.

In Switzerland Oliver Bozanic surprisingly found himself on the bench when Luzern had a 1-1 draw at St. Gallen.

In the Prva Liga in Croatia Tomislav Mrčela played a full match for Hrvatski Dragovoljac when they recorded a massive 4-0 away win at NK Zadar. It was only the second win for the team. Steven Ugarković played the second half for NK Osijek in their 1-0 loss against Istra.

In Scotland’s Premiership Curtis Good played a full match when Dundee United won 3-1 at Hibernian. Jackson Irvine came on after 26 minutes when Kilmarnock lost 2-0 at St. Mirren. Dylan McGowan played a full match in Hearts' 4-1 loss at Motherwell.

In the Scottish Championship Sebastian Usai was on the bench for Cowdenbeath in their 1-0 loss at Livingston.

In the FAW Welsh Cup Daniel Collins was an unused substitute for Bala Town in their 2-1 win at Aberdare.

In the Copa Libertadores in South America Richard Porta was missing for his Uruguayan Club Nacional when they went down 4-0 at Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina.

In Japan the J.League came back from the break giving all teams with Aussies in their squad losses at the start of the season. Joshua Kennedy scored the 1-1 equaliser for Nagoya Grampus with his team losing 3-2 against Shimizu S-Pulse at the end. Graham Arnold’s Vegalta Sendai also had a bad start by losing 2-1 at home against Albirex Niigata. Another home loss as well for Cerezo Osaka with a 1-0 against Sanfrecce Hiroshima with Mitch Nichols not in the matchday squad.

In Hong Kong’s FA Cup Dylan Macallister was on fire when he scored a double helping his team Eastern Salon to a 3-1 win against Yokohama FC HK.

In Thailand’s League Cup Trent McClenahan played a full match for PTT Rayong when they won 5-1 at Nakhon Si Thammarat. Phil Stubbins’s Ayutthaya also advanced to the next round with a 3-1 win at Maptaphut. Erik Paartalu made his debut for Muangthong United when his team had to go into extra-time to secure a 2-1 win Nakhon Pathom.

In the S.League in Singapore Darren Stewart’s Woodlands Wellington drew 1-1 against his former club Balestier Khalsa.

In the I-League in India Matthew Foschini played a full match for Salgaocar in their 3-1 win against Shilong Lajong lifting them into second spot. Jerry Karpeh remained on the bench for Sporting Goa and witnessed a 1-3 loss at Mohammedan SC. Sean Rooney played a full match and scored the 2-2 equaliser for Bengaluru which was not enough as the team lost 3-2 at bottom placed Rangdajied. Mirjan Pavlović made his debut for Pune when he came on after 62 minutes in a scoreless draw at Mumbai.

In the United States Albert Edward played 18 minutes for Colorado Rapids in 2-2 draw against New England Revolution. Andy Rose played 12 minutes when Seattle Sounders had a 2-2 draw against DC United.

In the Semifinals in New Zealand’s Premiership Richard Cardozo played a full match for Waitakere United when the team was without a chance in a 4-0 loss at home against Auckland City which makes it difficult to advance to the final after the second leg next week.

In Vanuatu’s Premia Divisen league leaders Amicale, coached by Nathan Hall, had a shock 1-1 draw at home and were lucky that their pursuers also drew this matchday. Michael Rutherford was not in the squad for Amicale.
