Aussies Abroad: Weekend wrap

Scott McDonald starred for Motherwell as the Scottish Premiership strugglers stunned Tom Rogic's Celtic 2-1 on Saturday (Sunday morning AEDT).

Rogic set up a goal but it wasn’t enough as Celtic suffered a shock home loss, while Ben Halloran came off the bench to provide an assist as his Heidenheim side won through in the German Cup.

The Aussie trio at Roda JC in the Netherlands continue to turn heads, with Tomi Juric bagging a brace and Daniel De Silva setting up another goal as Roda won 3-1 in the Dutch Cup, before Juric and Rostyn Griffiths grabbed a goal each as Roda lost 3-2 in the league.

There were also goals for Billy Konstantinidis in Greece and Thomas Beadling for Sunderland’s youth side, while Kenneth Dougall’s Sparta Rotterdam maintained their lead at the top of the Dutch second division with an emphatic 6-0 win over Maastricht.

In the English Premier League, Mark Schwarzer was an unused substitute as Leicester City remained at the top of the table with a 3-2 win away to Everton FC. Adam Federici was also an unused substitute as AFC Bournemouth won 2-1 away to West Bromwich Albion. Mile Jedinak was missing due to injury as Crystal Palace won 2-1 away to Stoke City. Curtis Good was also missing due to injury as Newcastle United was held to a 1-1 home draw by bottom club Aston Villa. In a match played earlier in the week, Schwarzer was an unused substitute as Leicester secured a 2-1 home win over champions Chelsea FC.

In the Championship in England, Shane Lowry played until the 79th minute as Birmingham City won 1-0 at home to Cardiff City. Neil Kilkenny came on in the 55th minute while Bailey Wright was an unused substitute as Preston North End lost 1-0 away to Leeds United. Massimo Luongo was an unused substitute as Queens Park Rangers drew 1-1 away to Bristol City. Tommy Oar was also an unused substitute as Ipswich Town lost 1-0 at home to Derby County. Jason Davidson was another unused substitute as Huddersfield Town lost 4-2 at Brentford FC. Rhys Williams was not in the squad as league leaders Middlesbrough FC won 3-0 away to title rivals Brighton & Hove Albion. Luke Brattan was also not in the squad as Bolton Wanderers drew 2-2 at home to Fulham FC.

In League Two in England, Alex Cisak played a full match as Leyton Orient came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Yeovil Town.

In the second round of the English FA Cup, Cisak played a full match for Orient as they lost 3-0 away to Scunthorpe United. Wesolowski was again missing due to injury as Shrewsbury won 1-0 at home to Grimsby Town.
