Scott McDonald again hit the highlights this week, scoring a brace for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, where Jackson Irvine also set up a goal in a come-from-behind 3-2 win. Elsewhere, former Socceroo Brett Holman was also back amongst the goals, getting on the scoresheet in the UAE.

In the English Premier League, Mile Jedinak played until the 67th minute as Crystal Palace suffered a 3-0 home loss to defending champions Chelsea FC. Brad Smith came on in the 61st minute as Liverpool FC lost 2-0 away to West Ham United. Mark Schwarzer was an unused substitute for Leicester City while Adam Federici was also an unused substitute for AFC Bournemouth as the sides played out a scoreless draw. Curtis Good was missing due to injury as Newcastle United lost 1-0 away to league leaders Arsenal FC.

In matches played earlier in the week, Jedinak played a full match for Palace as they drew 0-0 at home to Swansea City. Federici was again an unused substitute as Bournemouth lost 2-0 away to Arsenal. Schwarzer was also an unused substitute as Leicester played out a scoreless draw at home to Manchester City. Jordan Lyden was an unused substitute as Aston Villa lost 2-0 away to Norwich City. Smith was an unused substitute as Liverpool won 1-0 at Sunderland FC. In the Championship in England, Bailey Wright played until half-time while Neil Kilkenny was an unused substitute as Preston North End won 2-1 at home to Rotherham United. Tommy Oar came on in the 59th minute as Ipswich Town played out a goalless draw away to Burnley FC. Rhys Williams came on in the 79th minute as Charlton Athletic came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest. Massimo Luongo came on in the 85th minute as Queens Park Rangers lost 2-1 at home to Hull City. Shane Lowry was an unused substitute for Birmingham City as they won 2-1 at home to Brentford FC. Jason Davidson was also an unused substitute as Huddersfield Town won 2-0 away to Bolton Wanderers.

In the English Northern Premier League Division One North, Jamie Street was not in the squad for either match as Lancaster City FC first won 3-2 at Prescot Cables before winning 2-1 at home to Brighouse Town.

In the Tercera Division Group VI in Spain, Calvin Lovric was not in the squad for FC Jove Espanol as they lost 2-0 away to Orihuela CF. Elsewhere, in Group VII, Rafa Jimenez played a full match as CD Lugo Fuenlabrada lost 2-1 away to UD S.S. Reyes. Meanwhile, in Group XI, Connor Caswell was an unused substitute as CF Platges de Calvia suffered a 7-1 home loss to Real Mallorca B. Michael Lloyd-Green was not in the squad as CE Esporles lost 2-0 at UD Collerense.

In the Greek Superleague, Kerem Bulut was not in the squad for Iraklis FC as they won 3-0 at home to AEL Kalloni.

In the Ligat ha’Al in Israel, Nikita Rukavytsya played until the 83rd minute as Beitar Jerusalem won 1-0 at home to Bnei Yehuda.

In the Arabian Gulf League in the United Arab Emirates, Brett Holman played until the 71st minute and scored the opening goal of the game as Emirates Club lost 2-1 at home to Al Ahli. 

In the semi-finals of the Crown Prince Cup in Saudi Arabia, James Troisi was an unused substitute as Al Ittihad lost 1-0 away to Al Ahli.

TRANSFERS

Finally, in transfer news this week, former Seattle Sounder Andy Rose has joined English League One side Coventry on an 18 month deal. In other moves, Rhys Williams has joined fellow Championship side Charlton Athletic on loan for the rest of the season, while former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones is set for a trial with Dutch Eredivisie club NEC Nijmegen.
