Aussies have been powering their sides through in knock-out competitions this week, with a Mat Ryan clean sheet seeing Valencia advance to the Copa del Rey semi-finals, while Jackson Irvine has starred as Ross County saw off a Tom Rogic-less Celtic to reach the Scottish League Cup Final.

Elsewhere, Mark Milligan was on target from the penalty spot in the UAE, while Brad Inman was on the scoresheet again as Crewe Alexandra attempt to beat the drop in League One in England.

UK

In the fourth round of the English FA Cup, Adam Federici played a full match for ACF Bournemouth as they won 2-1 away to Portsmouth FC. Brad Smith also played a full match as Liverpool was held to a scoreless draw at home by West Ham United. Mile Jedinak came on in the 46th minute as Crystal Palace won 1-0 at home to Stoke City. Jordan Lyden was an unused substitute as Aston Villa suffered a 4-0 loss at home to Manchester City. James Wesolowski was missing due to injury as Shrewsbury Town won 3-2 at home to Sheffield Wednesday. 

In the Championship in England, Jason Davidson played a full match as Huddersfield Town lost 3-2 at home to Cardiff City. Massimo Luongo also played a full match as Queens Park Rangers played out a scoreless draw away to Nottingham Forest. Rhys Williams was not in the squad for Charlton Athletic as they won 4-1 away to Rotherham United.

In the English League One, Brad Inman played a full match and scored the opening goal from the penalty spot as bottom side Crewe Alexandra was held to a 1-1 draw away to Millwall FC. Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played a full match and set up his side’s only goal as league leaders Burton Albion lost 2-1 away to Rochdale AFC. James Meredith played a full match for Bradford City as they won 2-1 at home to Fleetwood Town. Andy Rose came on in the 46th minute as Coventry City lost 2-1 at home to Scunthorpe United. Ryan Williams was not in the squad for Barnsley FC as they won 1-0 away to Swindon Town. 

In matches played earlier in the week, Cansdell-Sherriff played a full match as Burton won 1-0 away to Peterborough United. Meredith again played a full match as Bradford lost 1-0 at home to Barnsley, for whom Ryan Williams was not in the squad. Inman played until the 80th minute as Crewe played out a goalless draw with Bury FC. Wesolowski was again missing due to injury as Shrewsbury lost 1-0 at home to Oldham Athletic.

In League Two in England, Alex Cisak played a full match for Leyton Orient as they lost 3-1 at home to Cambridge United. In an earlier match, Cisak played a full match and kept a clean sheet as Orient won 1-0 at home to Newport County.

In the second leg of semi-final ties in the English League Cup, Brad Smith was an unused substitute for Liverpool as they beat Stoke City 6-5 on penalties after the tie finished drawn 1-1.

In the English National League, Cameron Burgess played a full match while Aaron Downes was not in the squad as Cheltenham Town won 4-1 at home to Bromley FC. Michael McEntegart was an unused substitute as Welling United drew 1-1 away to Halifax Town. Rhain Davis was not in the squad as Altrincham FC won 3-1 at home to Woking FC. Daniel Collins was not in the squad for either match as Wrexham FC first lost 1-0 away to Braintree Town before drawing 1-1 away to Eastleigh FC.

In the National League South in England, Ben McNamara played a full match as Concord Rangers drew 2-2 at Maidstone United. Lee Burns was missing due to injury as Dartford FC lost 2-1 at home to Wealdstone FC. 

In the Northern Premier League Division One North in England, Jamie Street was not in the squad as Lancaster City FC lost 3-1 away to Glossop North End. 

In round two of the FA Trophy in England, Downes was not in the squad for Cheltenham as they lost 3-0 at home to Oxford City. 

In the U21 English Premier League Division One, Thomas Beadling played a full 90 minutes in both matches as Sunderland AFC U21 first lost 1-0 away to Manchester United U21 before drawing 0-0 at home to Chelsea FC U21. Tom Glover played a full match as Tottenham Hotspur U21 lost 2-0 away to Liverpool FC U21. Callum Elder was missing due to injury as Leicester City U21 drew 1-1 at home to Middlesbrough FC U21. Meanwhile, in Division Two, Jordan Lyden played a full match as Aston Villa U21 won 3-2 at Wolverhampton Wanderers U21. In another match, Lyden was not in the squad as Villa won 1-0 at home to Fulham FC U21.

In the U21 Premier Development League Two – North Division in England, Taylor Tombides played a full match as Hull City U21 drew 1-1 at home to Sheffield United U21. Elsewhere, in the South Division, both James Haran and Joshua Wallen were not in the squad as Queens Park Rangers U21 lost 3-2 at Cardiff City U21. 

In the quarterfinals of the U21 English Premier League Cup, Adam Edgar was not in the squad as Huddersfield Town AFC won 2-0 away to Southampton FC U21. Hyuga Tanner was also not in the squad as Blackburn Rovers U21 lost 2-1 away to West Ham United U21. 

In the Scottish Premiership, Ryan McGowan played a full match for Dundee United as they lost 4-1 at home to league leaders Celtic FC, for whom Tom Rogic played until the 60th minute. Scott McDonald played until the 72nd minute as Motherwell FC drew 2-2 at Dundee FC. 

In the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup, Jackson Irvine played a full match as Ross County won 3-1 over Celtic, for whom Rogic was missing due to injury. 

In the fourth round of the FA Cup in Scotland, Jesse Curran was an unused substitute as Dundee FC won 3-1 at home to Falkirk FC. 

In the Scottish Development League, Curran played a full match as Dundee FC Youth lost 2-1 at home to Hibernian Youth. Chris Duggan played until the 88th minute and set up a goal while Ethan Docherty was not in the squad for Partick Thistle Youth as they lost 3-2 at Hamilton Youth.

In the Spanish Primera Division, Mat Ryan played a full match as Valencia CF lost 1-0 at home to Sporting Gijon. 

In the second leg of quarterfinal ties in the Spanish Copa del Rey, Ryan played a full match and kept a clean sheet as Valencia beat UD Las Palmas 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate.

In the Tercera Division Group VI, Calvin Lovric and Mark Flintoft were not in the squad as FC Jove Espanol won 2-1 at home to UD Beniganim. Meanwhile, in Group VII, Rafa Jimenez was missing due to injury as CD Lugo Fuenlabrada lost 2-1 at Alcorcon B. Elsewhere, in Grupo XI, Connor Caswell played a full match as CF Platges de Calvia lost 4-1 at home to CF San Rafael. Michael Lloyd-Green played until the 77th minute as CE Esporles drew 1-1 away to CF Soller. 

In the German Bundesliga, Mathew Leckie played until the 84th minute as FC Ingolstadt lost 2-0 away to Borussia Dortmund. Mitch Langerak was an unused substitute while Robbie Kruse was missing due to injury as VfB Stuttgart won 2-1 at home to Hamburger SV. 

In the Italian Serie B, Josh Brillante was an unused substitute as Como drew 1-1 at home to Vicenza. In an earlier match, Brillante came on in the 80th minute as Como drew 1-1 away to Livorno. 

In Serie D in Italy, Sam Wilson played a full match and set up the only goal of the game as Scandicci  won 1-0 away to AD Voluntas Spoleto. Johnson Donnell also played a full match as SSD Albalonga won 2-1 at home to ASD Socio Culturale Castiadas. Judah Cleur came on in the 76th minute as ASD OltrepoVoghera drew 1-1 at ASD Borgosesia. Joseph Taylor was an unused substitute for FC Legnago Salus as they won 2-0 at home to ASD Sammaurese. 

In the Italian Eccellenza – Molise, Alex Schifino was an unused substitute for ASD Casalnuovo as they lost 2-1 away to ASD Comprensorio Vairano. 

In the Campionato Primavera in Italy, Panos Armenakas was an unused substitute for Udinese Youth drew 1-1 at home to Vicenza Youth. Jonathan Alcorace was also an unused substitute while Edwin Stangherlin was not in the squad (awaiting clearance) as US Avellino Youth lost 3-0 at home to Frosinone Youth. 

In the Eredivisie in the Netherlands, Brad Jones played a full match as NEC Nijmegen lost 3-0 at home to AZ Alkmaar. Tomi Juric was missing due to injury while both Rostyn Griffiths and Daniel De Silva were not in the squad as Roda JC drew 2-2 at home to AFC Ajax. In matches played earlier in the week, Jones played a full match and kept a clean sheet as Nijmegen won 2-0 at home to FC Twente. Griffiths played until the 50th minute, Juric was again missing due to injury, while De Silva was again not in the squad as Roda won 1-0 at home to FC Utrecht.

In the Dutch Eerste Divisie, Kenny Dougall played a full match as league leaders Sparta Rotterdam won 2-1 away to FC Den Bosch. Adam Sarota played a full 90 minutes in both matches as Go Ahead Eagles first lost 2-1 at home to Jong PSV before losing 1-0 away to Achilles ’29. In the round of 16 in the Turkish Kupasi, Aziz Behich played a full match for Bursaspor as they lost 2-1 at home to Amedspor.  Earlier in the week, in the final round of group stage matches, Behich was not in the squad as Bursaspor won 3-2 at Eskisehirspor.

In the 2. Lig in Turkey, Ersin Kaya was missing due to injury as Bayrampasaspor lost 2-0 away to Sariyer SK. 

In the Turkish 3. Lig, Emre Balci was not in the squad as BB Erzurumspor won 2-1 at home to Tekirdagspor. 

In the Eerste Klasse in Belgium, Bernie Ibini was missing due to injury as Club Brugge KV won 2-1 at home to KSC Lokeren. 

In the Greek Superleague, Kerem Bulut played until the 81st minute as Iraklis FC lost 2-0 away to SKODA Xanthi. Terry Antonis was not in the squad as PAOK FC drew 1-1 at home to Atromitos FC. Earlier in the week, Bulut played until the 64th minute as Iraklis drew 0-0 at home to AO Platanias.

In the first leg of quarterfinal ties in the Kypello Elladas in Greece, Bulut came on in the 46th minute as Iraklis lost 4-1 away to AEK Athens. Antonis did not play for PAOK FC as they drew 1-1 away to Panionios GSS.

In the Arabian Gulf League in the United Arab Emirates, Mark Milligan played a full match and scored from the penalty spot as Bani Yas SC won 3-2 at home to Al Fujairah Club. Brett Holman played a full match as Emirates Club won 2-1 at home to Al Sha’ab. 

In the Hong Kong Premier League, Jared Lum played a full match for Kitchee SC as they won 3-0 away to South China AA, for whom Ryan Griffiths was an unused substitute. Andrew Barisic was not in the squad as Eastern SC won 2-1 away to Wong Tai Sin. 

In the First Division League in Hong Kong, no detailed information was available on Brendan Beni as Hong Kong FC won 1-0 at home to Double Flower FA. 

AFRICA 

In the South African Premier Soccer League, Isaka Cernak was not in the squad as SuperSport United won 1-0 at home to Free State Stars. 

FRIENDLIES

In club friendlies this week, Milos Degenek came on in the 74th minute as 1860 Munich won 5-1 away to Wacker Burghausen. Awer Mabil was in the starting eleven for FC Midtjylland as they drew 1-1 at home to AGF Aarhus. In a match played earlier in the week, Degenek played until the 65th minute as 1860 drew 1-1 with Dynamo Kyiv.

TRANSFERS

Finally, in transfer news this week, Perth Glory has recruited a pair of Aussies returning from England, snaring Adam Taggart from Fulham and Shane Lowry from Birmingham City. Socceroos attacker James Troisi has joined Chinese Super League side Liaoning Whowin, while Adelaide United midfielder Jimmy Jeggo has signed for Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga. Elsewhere, a pair of Olyroos have secured loan moves until the end of the season, with goalkeeper Aaron Lennox linking up with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen and defender Cameron Burgess joining Cheltenham Town.
