Aussies Abroad weekend wrap

Goals all over the world this week, with the star performer being Swindon Town’s Massimo Luongo, who scored one goal and set up another to fire his side to a 3-0 win. Shane Cansdell-Sherriff was also on the scoresheet in the English lower divisions, Brett Holman popped up with another goal in the Middle East, while Hong Kong-based Evan Kostopoulos scored his second goal in two games.

Elsewhere, there were goals for Richard Porta in Ecuador, Kenneth Dougall in the Netherlands, and Apostolis Giannou in Greece, while James Troisi, Ben Halloran, and Greg Downes set up goals for teammates to help their sides to victory.

In the English Premier League, Brad Jones played a full match for Liverpool FC as they lost 3-0 away to bitter rivals Manchester United. Mile Jedinak also played a full match as Crystal Palace drew 1-1 at home to Stoke City. Mark Schwarzer was an unused substitute as Chelsea FC won 2-0 at home to Hull City. Curtis Good was missing due to injury as Newcastle United lost 4-1 away to Arsenal FC. Jason Davidson was not in the squad for West Bromwich Albion as they won 1-0 at home to Aston Villa, for whom Chris Herd was an unused substitute.

In the Championship in England, Scott McDonald played a full match as Millwall FC won 1-0 away to Brighton & Hove Albion. Adam Federici played a full match while Ryan Edwards was not in the squad as Reading FC were hammered 6-1 away to Birmingham City. Rhys Williams was missing due to injury as Middlesbrough FC won 2-0 at home to Derby County.

In the Regionalliga West in Germany, Brandon Chin was an unused substitute while Zane Chothia was not in the squad as FC Hennef drew 1-1 with Alemannia Aachen.

In the Eredivisie in the Netherlands, Luke Wilkshire played a full match for Feyenoord, while Eli Babalj was not in the squad for AZ Alkmaar, as the side’s played out a 2-2 draw. In the Eerste Klasse in Belgium, Mat Ryan played a full match as league leaders Club Brugge KV won 3-1 away at Standard Liege. James Troisi also played a full match and set up the only goal of the game as SV Zulte Waregem won 1-0 at home to KSC Lokeren.

In the Turkish SuperLig, Aziz Behich played a full match as Bursaspor lost 3-2 away to Kardemir Karabukspor.

In the 2. Lig in Turkey, Emre Balci was an unused substitute for Diyarbakir BBSK as they played out a goalless draw with Sariyer SK.

Finally in transfer news this week, Brisbane Roar has agreed to sell captain Matt Smith to Thai First Division side Bangkok Glass. Smith, a three-time A-League champion, made his final appearance for the Roar in their 1-0 win over Adelaide United last Friday.
