Aussies Abroad weekend wrap

Brace yourselves for a goal fest, with rising Socceroos star Massimo Luongo among several Aussies abroad to score a double. 

The tricky midfielder bagged both in Swindon's 2-1 win over Bradford City to put the Robins promotion bid back on track. Sean Rooney scored a double before half-time in India, Daniel McBreen was in with a brace in the AFC Champions League and  Chris Ikonomidis was on target twice and set up a third in a 3-0 win for Lazio Youth.

There were goal-and-assist doubles for Ndumba Makeche in Malaysia and Adriano Pellegrino in Thailand. Elsewhere, Giannis Simosis fired in a winning goal in Greece, Ryan Griffiths scored in the Malaysian Cup, and Adam Taggart continued his good form, setting up another goal for Fulham U21.

UK

In the English Premier League, Mile Jedinak played a full match for Crystal Palace as they won 3-1 away to West Ham United. Curtis Good was missing due to injury as Newcastle United won 1-0 at home to Aston Villa, for whom Chris Herd was also missing due to injury. Brad Jones was another missing due to injury as Liverpool FC recorded a 2-1 victory at home to champions Manchester City. Jason Davidson was not in the squad for West Bromwich Albion as they won 1-0 at home over Southampton FC.

In the Championship in England, Adam Federici played a full match for Reading FC as they suffered a 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest. Rhys Williams was missing due to injury as promotion-chasing Middlesbrough FC lost 2-0 at Sheffield Wednesday. In matches played earlier in the week, Federici again played a full match for Reading as they lost 3-0 away to Huddersfield Town. Williams was missing due to injury as Middlesbrough beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0. Both Adam Taggart and Ryan Williams were not in the squad as Fulham FC lost 3-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Finally, in transfer news this week, free agent striker Scott McDonald has re-joined Scottish Premier League side Motherwell, eight years after leaving the club for Celtic. McDonald, who left English Championship side Millwall earlier this year, scored 45 goals in 111 games in his first stint with Motherwell between 2004 and 2007.
