Aussies Abroad weekend wrap

Former Socceroo Brett Holman and his Al Nasr side claimed the President’s Cup in the UAE as Aussies Abroad continued to chase silverware this week.

Aziz Behich wasn’t as lucky, with his Bursaspor side going down in the Turkish Cup final, while James Holland also lost out in the Austrian Cup.

Elsewhere, former Melbourne Victory man Adrian Leijer has scored his first goal in the Chinese Super League, leading his Chongqing Lifan side to a 1-0 win.


In the Premier Division in Ireland, Mark Griffin was not in the squad for Bohemian FC as they won 2-1 away to Dundalk FC.

In the Irish First Division, Dylan Mernagh was not in the squad as Waterford United lost 1-0 away to Cobh Ramblers.


In the Mittelrheinliga in Germany, Sam Gibson was not in the squad as TSV Germania Windeck ran out 6-3 winners over SC Bruhl.

In the final of the Turkish Kupasi, Aziz Behich played until the 64th minute as Bursaspor lost 3-2 to league champions Galatasaray SK.

In the OFB-Cup final in Austria, James Holland came on in the 71st minute as FK Austria Wien suffered a 2-0 extra-time loss to Red Bull Salzburg after the match finished tied 0-0 after 90 minutes.

In the Schweizer Cup final, Dario Vidosic was not in the squad for FC Sion as they claimed the cup with a 3-0 win over FC Basel.

In the Division Two Sodra Gotaland in Sweden, Kliment Taseski came on in the 70th minute but was sent off in the 90th as FC Rosengard suffered a 3-0 home defeat to KSF Prespa Birlik. In an earlier match, Taseski was missing due to injury as Rosengard played out a scoreless draw with IFK Malmo.

In the One Deild Karla in Iceland, Kile Kennedy played a full match and kept a clean sheet as KF Fjardabyggd won 2-0 at home to Haukar.

In round three of the Borgunarbikar in Iceland, Kennedy again played a full match and kept a clean sheet as Fjardabyggd ran out 4-0 winners at home to Kari Akranes.  

In the One Lyga in Lithuania, Evan Alexandrow-Ridley was missing due to injury as FC Dziugas were thrashed 5-0 at home by FK Lokomotyvas. Earlier in the week, Alexandrow-Ridley played a full match as Dziugas lost 2-0 at FK Banga.

In the final round of matches in the III liga podlasko-warminsko-mazurska in Poland, Keegan Savige was not in the squad for MMKS Concordia Elblag as they lost 2-1 at home to Drweca NML.


In the Chinese Super League, Tim Cahill played a full match as Shanghai Shenhua lost 3-1 away to Changchun Yatai. Adrian Leijer also played a full match and scored the only goal of the game as Chongqing Lifan secured a 1-0 win away to Shanghai Shenxin. Josh Mitchell came on in the 78th minute as Liaoning Hongyun lost 2-0 at home to Hangzhou Lucheng.

In the China League One, Adam Hughes played a full match for Ha’erbin Yiteng as they played out a 2-2 draw away to Dalian A’erbin. Jonas Salley was missing due to suspension as Nei Mongol Zhongyou drew 2-2 with Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard.

In the Japanese J-League Division One, Mitchell Duke played a full match for Shimizu S-Pulse as they lost 1-0 away to Urawa Red Diamonds.

In the J-League Division Two in Japan, Mitch Nichols was not in the squad for either match as Cerezo Osaka was first held to a 1-1 draw at Consadole Sapporo before winning 1-0 at home to Ehime FC.

In the K-League in Korea, Alex Wilkinson was an unused substitute as Jeonbuk FC lost 2-1 at home to FC Seoul. Aleksandar Jovanovic was missing due to injury for both matches this week as Jeju United first won 3-2 at home to Seongnam FC before losing 2-0 at Ulsan Hyundai. Earlier in the week, Wilkinson played a full match as Jeonbuk played out a goalless draw away to Pohang Steelers.  

In the President’s Cup final in the United Arab Emirates, Brett Holman played a full match as Al Nasr beat Al Ahli 3-0 on penalties after the match finished tied 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time.

In the Thai Division Two League North Eastern Region, Adriano Pellegrino played a full match as Udon Thani FC won 1-0 away to Nakhon Phanom FC.


In the Argentinean Cuarta, Gavin de Niese played a full match for CA River Plate as they came back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw at home to Newell’s Old Boys.

In the Uruguayan Primera Division, Richard Porta came on in the 85th minute as CA Rentistas drew 1-1 at home to Juventud LP.

In the second leg of the Segunda Division – Promotion Playoff Uruguay, Blake Ricciuto played a full match as Canadian SC lost 2-1 on the day and 4-2 on aggregate to Boston River.


In Major League Soccer in the United States, Andy Rose played a full 90 minutes in both matches this week for Seattle Sounders as they first came back to win 2-1 at home to New York Red Bulls before losing 1-0 away to Sporting Kansas City.

In the USA National Premier Soccer League, Daniel Deblaere played a full match as FC Indiana secured a 2-2 draw away to Minnesota United Reserves.

In the USL Pro, Harrison Delbridge played a full match as Portland Timbers II lost 2-0 away to OKC Energy.

In the USL Premier Development League in the United States, Aaron Schneebeli came on in the 75th minute as Forest City London won 5-2 at home to TFC Academy. In an earlier match, Schneebeli did not play as Forest City won 3-1 away to K-W United.

In the National Women’s Soccer League in the USA, Ellie Brush played a full match as Houston Dash played to a scoreless draw at home to Portland Thorns.


Finally in transfer news this week, Bernie Ibini has joined Belgian side Club Brugge from Shanghai SIPG after spending last season on loan at Sydney FC. Brett Holman is also on the move, agreeing a deal with UAE side Emirates Club. Rising star Chris Ikonomidis also signed a new deal this week, penning an improved five-year contract with Italian Serie A side Lazio.
