Brazil legend touted as A-League 'marquee' manager

Brazilian World Cup winner Roberto Carlos is interested in coaching in the Hyundai A-League as a "marquee" manager, according to the former Real Madrid star's agent.

Carlos’ Brazilian representative Ricardo Seyton believes the former set-piece specialist would be a smash-hit Down Under, reports the Adelaide Advertiser.

“It’s very clear Australian football has experienced big growth,” Seyton said.

“Roberto Carlos’ record speaks for itself as a player and he has had success in Turkey coaching Sivasspor which is a modest club by Turkish standards.

“He’s a lover of football, he really has that passion deeply in-bedded and he can bring some of what has made Brazilian football popular in the world to Australia’s doorstep.”

Carlos is currently player/coach in the Indian Super League with Delhi Dynamos.

But his deal ends in December making him available for a new challenge.

“I have been to Australia and studied the A-League and in particular the football markets in Adelaide and Melbourne where I have seen Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory,’’ Seyton said

“I have enjoyed the rawness of the competition and the enthusiasm of the people involved.

“The A-League is a very stable competition and with Australia growing the game steadily among young children he [Carlos] can add his expansive knowledge of the game.”

While still relatively new to the coaching caper, Carlos’ playing CV is exceptional.

He was part of the Brazil side which won the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan as well as securing numerous club title with Real Madrid.

Carlos time in Spain saw him win three UEFA Champions League titles, four La Liga championships, two Spanish Super Cups and two Intercontinental titles (now the FIFA club World Cup).
