Cahill sidelined for 2-3 weeks

Tim Cahill will be sidelined for 2-3 weeks with a hamstring strain sustained during a New York Red Bulls match on Sunday.

Green and gold fans held their collective breath after hearing Australia’s all-time highest goal scorer limped from the pitch on 32 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Chivas USA.

The Aussie superstar is the latest Socceroo to make the injury list ahead of the World Cup in June with key players Rhys Williams (Achilles tendon) and Robbie Kruse (knee) already ruled out.

Rising stars Curtis Good (hip flexor) and Trent Sainsbury (knee) remain on the treatment table.

But the injury to the 34-year-old was not as bad as first feared and Cahill tweeted: “Found out that I will be out for 2-3 weeks with hamstring problem. Working with the best to get fit asap.”
