Caravella makes surprise return to Jets
The Jets have welcomed the 31-year-old back into the fold for their 2014-15 A-League campaign after granting him a release earlier this year.
Caravella returned to his hometown of Cairns to pursue business interests but says his break from the topflight gave him a new appreciation for the game.
“My time away from professional football changed my perspective,” Caravella said.
“I want to do what I love and what I enjoy and that’s playing football at the highest level I can.
“I know most of the boys at the club and I know the city of Newcastle, so that will allow me to feel comfortable and settle in right away.
“I’m excited be back with the Newcastle Jets and I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”
Caravella played briefly for the FNQ Heat while in Cairns and was involved in their FFA Cup run which ended 4-1 against Sydney United.
Jets head coach Phil Stubbins said the club was pleased to welcome the player back into the ranks.
“Zenon’s decision to come back to the Newcastle Jets is great news for us,” Stubbins said.
“After speaking to the staff and people I respect in the game, I think Zenon will come in and enhance what we’re trying to do as a club in this coming campaign.
“He’s someone who understands the landscape and everything associated with the Newcastle Jets, so hopefully we can embrace the qualities Zenon has to offer moving forward.”
Caravella has made 127 A-League appearances, including 25 for the Newcastle Jets.
