Charlton Athletic snap up Aussie teenager

West Australian teenager Ashley Maynard-Brewer has been snapped up by Charlton Athletic.

The younger goalkeeper has signed with the academy of the English Championship side for next two years. Maynard-Brewer trialled with Aston Villa, Fulham, QPR and Everton last year.

The 16-year-old came through the ranks at Perth powerhouse ECU Joondalup, playing regularly for the club’s U20s this season. Ashley Maynard-Brewer has also featured on the bench for the first-team.

He grew up as a Chelsea fan, admiring Petr Cech, and is one of a number of ECU Joondalup juniors now plying their trade in England. The long list includes Rhys and Ryan Williams, Chris Herd, Shane Lowry, Jordan Lyden and Adam Taggart.

Maynard-Brewer played with the ECU Joondalup U13s, which was Australia’s representative at the 2012 Junior World Masters tournament in Poland.
