The Central Coast Mariners have been gifted an early Christmas present with news that attacking dynamo Fabio Ferreira has returned to full fitness ahead of their clash with Sydney FC.
Ferreira, who returned from a hamstring injury off the bench in his side’s 1-0 loss to Brisbane Roar on Sunday, believes he’s fit and ready to put in a full shift for the cellar dwellers.
“I’m hoping so, but it’s a matter of what the coach wants to do but I’m happy with anything,” Ferreira said.
“Nobody wants to be injured and out, but now I’m back, I just want to keep fit until the end of the season.”
The midfielder, who has scored two goals so far this season – both against Perth Glory in round one – has no illusions about what’s needed on the park having let a point slip against the Roar.
“Obviously it's disappointing we didn’t win, we need some wins,” he said.
“Everybody is positive, even though the results aren’t going our way, we have to keep fighting you know and keep playing.
“So I think everybody is positive and ready for the next game and to get three points”
With two matches in five days over the festive period, Ferreira believes a win is just the tonic for the Mariners woes as of late.
“I think (to get three points) it’s good for the mentality and good for the ladder,” he said.
With an eye on a starting berth against Sydney, Ferreira hopes that he can be a vital part of revitalising the club’s flagging season.
“Now I’m back I’ll be playing, trying to be as good as I was before, creating goals and chances.”comments
