Glory bring in Grant

English-born Australian defender Alex Grant has joined Perth Glory.

Grant, 21, was born in Manchester and grew up in Perth, where he played for ECU Joondalup and was part of Football West's NTC Program.

He moved to Portsmouth in 2010 and has been in England ever since, before signing for the Glory.

“I’m really thrilled and excited to be heading back to Perth to play in the A-League and it’s only fitting that I do it in my home town," Grant said in a statement.

"I’ve learnt a lot playing in England for the past five years but it’s time to change tact and push myself in the domestic league, it’s a wonderful opportunity and I’m thankful to the club for believing in me."

The left-footed Grant never made a senior appearance for Portsmouth and was on loan at Eastleigh, and Havant and Waterlooville.

Grant signed for Stoke City in 2013, but was sent out on loan to Macclesfield Town during the 2014-15 campaign.

Glory coach Kenny Lowe was happy to bring Grant in and said it was the first of many signings to come.

“Alex is a great young lad, with plenty of potential, he’s a natural left footer, is very flexible in that he can play a number of positions and that suits us for what we want,” he said

“We are injecting new blood into this coming season and there’ll be a few more players to come."
