Perth Glory FC have completed the signing of left-back Marc Warren on a one-year deal.
The announcement comes as Glory prepare to unveil their international marquee for the 2015-16 A-League season.
Glory said their marquee, to be revealed on Thursday, has “a tremendous pedigree, and has played at the highest level in one of Europe's most prestigious football leagues”.
Meanwhile, ex-Sheffield United defender Warren joins Kenny Lowe’s squad after a successful three-week trial.
Glory fans should get their first glimpse of the defender in action when he lines up against the Newcastle Jets in the FFA Cup next week.
Lowe said that Warren’s experience was a major factor in deciding to sign the 23-year-old.
“He’s very experienced for someone of such a young age,” Lowe said of the player who also spent time with Central Coast Mariners and more recently Sydney FC.
“He’s played in the UK, played in Scotland and he’s played in the A-League. He’s hungry – he’s shown that he’s got good qualities. Hopefully he kicks on and fulfils his potential.”
A product of the Australian Institute of Sport, Warren has appeared 26 times for Australia’s U17 and U20 squads, including the FIFA U20 World Cup.
There he played alongside current Socceroos Trent Sainsbury and Tommy Oar, facing a strong Spanish side that included star Athletico Madrid forward Koke, and FC Barcelona’s up-and-comers Marc Bartra, Christian Tello and Sergi Roberto.
After featuring in the U20 premier tournament, Warren was signed by then-League One outfit Sheffield United, who finished third in the 2011-12 season. He later went on to feature for Scottish side Airdrie United, before returning home to Sydney FC and APIA Leichhardt.
Warren expressed his excitement to pull on the purple jersey and represent Perth in the A-League.
“I’m grateful to get another chance to play football on the biggest stage in Australia, especially considering the proud history of the Club,” he said.
“I’ll be doing whatever I can to help bring success to Glory because the fans and the people at the Club deserve it.”
Warren joins ex-Sky Blues teammate Hagi Gligor in the Glory squad.
Glory face the Jets at Magic Park in NSW on Tuesday night, kicking off at 5:30pm AWST. Tune into Fox Sports 4 to watch the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 clash.
