Gongs for Socceroos Smith and Irvine

Socceroos fullback Brad Smith has been rewarded for his stellar season with Liverpool at the club’s annual awards ceremony on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old was named the Premier League side’s Academy Players’ Player of the season after breaking into the first team under Jurgen Klopp during the 2015/16 campaign.

Smith won the award ahead of fellow nominees Cameron Brannagan, Sergi Canos and Kevin Stewart.

"It's a privilege to win this award. Thanks to all the senior boys who have helped me this year, the coaching staff and the manager,” Smith told LFCTV.

Brazilian superstar Philippe Coutinho was the big winner on the night, picking up the club’s player of the season award along with the players’ player accolade.

Meanwhile, Socceroo Jackson Irvine has been recognised for a breakout season with the midfielder named Ross County’s Supporters’ Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Player of the Year overnight.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stellar campaign in Scotland, helping County claim their first major piece of silverware with a man-of-the-match performance in their 2-1 League Cup Final win over Hibernian.

Irvine was also named the Scottish Premiership’s player of the month for March.
