Griffin McMaster's Team Of The Week

GRIFFIN McMaster has named his pick of the week's performances with his team of the round...

Goalkeeper: Liam Reddy
(Central Coast Mariners)
Just did enough to edge out opponent Glen Moss for the nod in team of the week. Full of confidence especially after saving a penalty and making other crucial saves in the 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix. Doing all the right things to earn another contract extension at the club.

Left fullback: Riley Woodcock
(Perth Glory)
Did a sound job at left back in the 0-0 draw versus Adelaide. Had to come up against a pretty solid Adelaide attack and the 18 year old did well. 41 passes at 78% and didn’t get overlapped on too many occasions.

Defender: Andrew Durante
(Wellington Phoenix)
Has endured a difficult start to the season as caption but earns his selection though a very hard working performance against Sydney FC 1-0. Is fitting for the long-time A-League player who digs deep in difficult situations.

Defender: Ben Sigmond
(Wellington Phoenix)
Like Andrew the combination with him was crucial in their clean sheet win over Sydney FC who have a very competitive side in this A-League campaign.

Right fullback: Storm Roux
(Central Coast Mariners)
Scored the winning goal on Thursday night but nearly turned villain by conceding an accidental penalty he wouldn’t have known much about. However he provided a solid performance at right back.

Defensive midfield: Manny Muscat
(Wellington Phoenix)
Always a hard working midfielder and much underrated in the A-League. An absolute workhorse in the middle of the park making a lot of successful challenges and distributing the ball very efficiently.

Midifeld: Joshua Brillante
(Newcaslte Jets)
Had a solid season thus far for Newcastle. Has been a great recruit by Gary Van Egmond. Again work-rate is very high and passing and creativity has been key for the Jets this season.

Midfield:Mitch Nichols
(Melbourne Victory)
Takes out player of the week with his strong performance in the derby versus Melbourne Heart. Scored two goals and converted 87% of his 60 passes. A smoky for socceroos world cup squad at this rate.

Midfield: James Triosi
(Melbourne Victory)
Been the best player of the A-League season thus far. Got on the scoresheet again. 41 passes at 83%. Work rate very strong, creative and really on song. Firming for a spot into the world cup squad.

Striker: Stein Huysegems
(Wellington Phoenix)
Fitting to have the only recognised striker that scores in the team of the week however Stein had a solid performance against Sydney. Always fighting for every ball being creative and a well earned winner to get the points for Nix.

Striker: Joey Gibbs
(Newcastle Jets)
Started on the bench came on in the 67th minute. Made a solid impact into the match and scored the clincher in the 87th minute. Not an easy task for the youngster who has tough competition with Taggart and Heskey however is doing all the right things to compete for a starting spot.
