Griff's Team of the Week

A scintillating round of football threw up a few surprises and some key wins - but made the cut for the Team of the Week?

GK: Andrew Redmayne (Melbourne Heart)
Had his share of work to do in the goals but he kept a clean sheet and ultimately will help the confidence of the Heart backline to produce similar performances. Made a good save late on at feet.

DL: Michael Zullo (Adelaide United)
With Adelaide’s coach Josip Gombau’s attacking philosophy, players like Michael are given an opportunity to go forward and he’s doing well, making runs up the touchline and getting balls into the box. Also produced a sound job in defence.

DC: Kew Jaliens (Newcastle Jets)
The Dutchman had a great day out against the Wanderers. Was always cool under pressure when he had the ball at his feet. Commanded the defence around very well. Also put one  in the back of the net.

DR: Ivan Franjic (Brisbane Roar)
Has been in great form all season and also put one in the back of the net in a 3-0 win over Perth Glory. Ivan has been a standout for roar who are dominating at the top of the table.

MLC: Jeronimo Neumann (Adelaide United)
Was superb in his demolition job against an in form Nix. Scored two goals one either side of the net. Always shows his quality, week in, week out. Is in the top five players in the A-League.

MC: Orlando Engelaar (Melbourne Heart)
Another fantastic performance from the tall Dutchman. Ran the show in midfield. Is a huge presence and I’m sure he’s enjoying his role and contribution to the team every week. Heart fans can genuinely believe they’ll make the finals and Orlando can definitely play a big part in it.

MC: Liam Miller (Brisbane Roar)
Has been an unsung hero in Roar’s campaign this season but his hard work isn’t going unnoticed. Played a great match on the weekend against his former club and also converted a goal. He’s a very determined player in the middle of the park, wins a lot of tackles and puts his body about.

AMC: Thomas Broich (Brisbane Roar)
Another masterclass performance from the German. Scored a great goal from outside the box. You can’t afford to give time on the ball to a player of his calibre.

MRC: Fabio Ferreria (Adelaide United)
Is a superb winger for Adelaide and again showed his true class on Thursday night against Phoenix. Is potent with his forward runs. Always a threat in the box. Scored a great goal and is showing he is a quality recruit.

FLC: David Williams (Melbourne Heart)
Put in a solid shift for Heart and also capped a goal in the 83th minute to put the foot on the throats of Melbourne Victory. Was busy on the wings but at the moment he’s playing with a lot of confidence.

SC: Mitchell Duke (Central Coast Mariners)
Always does his fair share of hard work up forward and his efforts were rewarded for the match winning goal on Saturday night against a determined Sydney FC. With his energy it could spurn the morale in the Mariners camp to more wins.
