Injured Socceroo Rhys Williams suffers minor setback

Socceroo Rhys Williams has suffered a minor setback in his recovery from the injury that forced him to miss the World Cup in Brazil.

The Australian is a long term absentee from the park for Championship outfit Middlesbrough after damaging his Achilles tendon in January.

Boro coach Aitor Karanka said Williams, 26, and injured teammate Muzzy Carayol were making good progress despite the latest hiccup to the Australian’s return.

Williams, who also missed the 2010 World Cup due to injury, has been working hard on his rehab but picked up a niggle in training.

“Rhys is a long term injury and Muzzy is going very well but Rhys had a setback this week and had to rest, but it’s nothing major,” Karanka told the club’s official website this week.

“When you’ve been out for 10 or 12 months one more week out doesn’t matter.”
