Iran outclass Bahrain

Iran made an impressive start to their Asian Cup campaign, beating Bahrain 2-0 in Melbourne on Sunday night.

Carlos Queiroz's men needed until the 71st minute to seal a win that always looked on the cards at AAMI Park.

Ehsan Hajsafi opened the scoring just before half-time with a stunning effort.

A corner was cleared to Hajsafi on the edge of the area and he took a touch before looping an effort over Sayed Jaafar.

Iran looked the more likely to score a second, and a few tight offside calls went against them.

But Masoud Shojaei made it 2-0 in the second half.

Andranik Teymourian's corner found Shojaei, and he scuffed a right-footed effort in from near the penalty spot.
