Jets lose Neville for the rest of the season

NEWCASTLE Jets defender Scott Neville will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Sunday's 2-1 away win over Melbourne Victory.

The club's website officially announced Neville's season-ending injury today.

Coach Gary Van Egmond said the player 'felt something click' before being stretchered off in the first half of the match.

Prior to that the 24-year-old defender was involved in some friendly fire when he took a high speed knock to the head from the knee of teammate Kew Jaliens.

Neville wore a knee brace after the game and underwent scans to assess the extent of the damage, which confirmed the club's worst fears.

It was a sour note to end what was a big weekend for the Hunter outfit.

After orchestrating an upset win over Victory, the Jets surged to third on the A-League ladder, just one point behind second-placed Western Sydney Wanderers.
