Joeys continue winning run at AFF Youth Championships

The Joeys have continued their free-scoring run at the Under-16 AFF Youth Championships with a big win over Myanmar on Monday night.

JOEYS CHASE PERFECT RECORD

The young Aussies burst out of the blocks, scoring three times inside the first 20 minutes on the way to a 4-0 win in Myanmar.

Ufuk Talay’s side has now scored 16 goals in their three group stage wins ahead of Wednesday’s final group match against the Philippines.

It took just seven minutes for the Joeys to take the lead after the Myanmar defence failed to clear a corner.

Lachlan Brook’s cross was only partially cleared to the top of the box where Ramy Najjarine took one touch before bending his shot around the ‘keeper.

Nine minutes later and it was two as Dylan Pierias got forward and played a ball into the middle where Brook made no mistake with a superb first-time volley.

The Joeys were flying by this stage and on 19 minutes it was 3-0 with Adrian Valenti finishing off after a great through-ball by Mersim Memeti.

It was a bit tougher going for the Aussies after the break and they didn’t complete the scoring until deep into second-half stoppage time.

After some nice build-up play through the centre of the pitch, Mark Moric got the ball at the top of the box before beating one defender and dispatching his shot into the bottom corner.

The result ensures the Joeys a spot in the semi-final, which will begin on Friday.
