From kitchen table to kings of Asia

Western Sydney Wanderers have gone from a sketch at a kitchen table to kings of Asia in just over two years - and this month's Australian FourFourTwo takes you inside their incredible journey.

We've got a fascinating 14 page special feature that takes you from the club's rocky, rushed beginnings to being crowned Asian champions...and coach Tony Popovic is key to it all.

"He's the best coach in the country," veteran keeper coach and former Socceroo Ron Corry, 73, tells FourFourTwo magazine. "He has that thing about him that others don't. It stands out."

On day one, as Popa addressed his handpicked squad of rookies and rejects, one word was written on the whiteboard by his side: CHAMPIONS.

One Premiership, two A-League grand finals and a two-legged AFC Champions League final later, they are, (...although the overseas commitments have disrupted their domestic title hopes so far this season.)

Find out the secrets of what makes the club so special, how they were forged from literally nothing to become continental champs on a relatively shoesting budget and where they go from here with our exclusive insight in the current issue, out now. No matter what team you support, you'll want to read this...

Also in the new issue, we sit down for an exclusive and revealing chat with former Socceroos stalwart Mark Schwarzer who gives us some frank talk about the A-League and Socceroos, as well as all the twists and turns in his career that this month took him from Chelsea to Leicester City.

And we get a rare interview with the Socceroos' silent assassin Mark Bresciano, hailed by those who know him best as Australia's greatest ever player. He and those closest to him tell us the age-defying secret behind his devastating talent.

Plus with the Asian Cup now under way, we go behind enemy lines to get the vital intel from the Aussie pioneers who know Asia from the inside after making a name for themselves in our near neighbours and new backyard rivals.

Finally, with the new year now underway we look back on the year past and pick our heroes (and heroines) of 2014 in a tumultuous year in Australia and worldwide.

The new issue is on sale in newsagents now, with digital versions available on iTunes, Google Play and Zinio. Don't miss it!
