A-League pre-season live streams provide Father's Day football for fans

In a Father’s Day boon for football fans two A-League clashes will be streamed live on Sunday afternoon.

Central Coast Mariners face Melbourne City in Lismore, while Melbourne Victory take on their first A-League opponent of the pre-season in a ‘closed match’ with Perth Glory at AAMI Park.

The online access to football action continues a growing trend for A-League clubs which is attracting tens of thousands of viewers from around the world.

Victory's clash with Glory will witness Mitch Nichols return to AAMI Park to face his former club for the first time since his mid-season move to Japan last season.

CEO Ian Robson said: “So far this pre-season, we have live streamed our FFA Cup game and had comprehensive video highlights posted online straight after our other friendly matches giving fans an unprecedented look at our pre-season preparations.

“This Sunday’s clash against Perth Glory will be an exciting match for Kevin (Muscat) and the team and we’re looking forward to giving our fans a chance to watch it live as it happens.

“Our FFA Cup live stream was extremely well received, with 20,000 fans tuning in to the match played against Bayswater City in Perth in August."

Herald Sun journalist Matt Windley will commentate the match which will be streamed live on MelbourneVictory.com.au.

Meanwhile, those who can’t get to Oakes Oval on Sunday can watch #LiveFromLismore on www.CCMariners.com.au.

The Mariners have again teamed up with local Central Coast company VPA Productions to provide the stream with on-ground support from Melbourne City.

Football fans from some 80 countries logged on to the Mariners’ last live stream when the yellow and navy defeated South Coast Wolves 1-0 at WIN Stadium, Wollongong in the Westfield FFA Cup.

Mariners CEO, Bruce Stalder, said more than 5000 fans were expected to attend the game with thousands more watching from around the world.

Stalder said live streams would become a regular part of the Mariners’ pre-season as they seek to grow the club brand.

In other pre-season action, Adelaide United will host Perth Glory on Thursday in a closed match at Coopers Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm.
