A-League pre-season: Victory edge Hume, City smash Cannons

FFA Cup quarter finalists Hume City and Oakleigh Cannons were both in action on Wednesday night against A-League opponents – with very different outcomes.

The Victorian NPL clubs will face off at ABD Stadium on September 22 and warmed up with some top flight competition.

Hume City looked the goods pushing Melbourne Victory to a 4-3 score line – the latter relying on two late goals from Besart Berisha and Leigh Broxham to seal the win.

The A-League champions fielded a strong line-up but were forced to come from behind as Hume’s Jai Ingham opened the scoring and teammates Niko Jackson and substitute Souheil Msahli retook the lead in the second-half.

Melbourne Victory 4 (Berisha 27', 90+2', Mahazi 33', Broxham 90')

Melbourne City had no such trouble with Oakleigh Cannons who shipped eight unanswered goals to their well-heeled opponents at Jack Edwards Reserve.

City put four past the Cannons in each half – including a first half brace to Robi Koren and a second-half brace to Wade Dekker who signed his first senior contract last month.
