Leckie goal boosts promotion push

Socceroo Mathew Leckie has scored to help FC Ingolstadt move a step closer to promotion to the German Bundesliga with a 3-2 win over Ben Halloran’s Fortuna Dusseldorf on Friday night.

Leckie headed home on 86 minutes to level the match, before Marvin Matip’s winner deep into injury time.

The victory helped Ingolstadt move eight points clear of second-placed Kaiserslautern, who play on Monday, with five games left after this weekend.

The crucial goal was Leckie’s sixth for the 2.Bundesliga campaign and his first since February 20.

Ingolstadt, who are backed by German automobile manufacturer Audi, have never played in the German top flight.
