Lustica seeks Roar unity

Brisbane Roar midfielder Steven Lustica has no intention of leaving the club and wants all of his teammates to stick together.

Roar are likely to see a mass turnover at the end of the season with twelve players in the final six months of their deals and currently free to talk to rival A-League clubs.

But 24-year-old Lustica, who came off the bench to score in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix, has no intention of leaving and wants his teammates to commit so they can build on their strong start under coach John Aloisi.

“A lot of us have been together for a few years. It’d be great to keep the core group,” Lustica told reporters.

“Obviously there’s always players coming in and out but it’s great that the last couple of years, most of the boys have stuck here. It’s good to see.

“We’ve got a great bunch of lads here. We’re all mates off the field. It was a good camp away in Cairns, it was good to get away for a few days together.

Lustica said his preference is to continue his commitments at Brisbane Road.

“In football, things change quickly, but like I said I’m happy here and enjoying my time,” Lustica said.

“I love this club, I love Brisbane. I’m just focused on playing, playing well, improving and taking it step-by-step.”

Lustica, who began his A-League career as a youth player for Sydney FC before making his senior debut with Gold Coast United, is locked in a battle with Dimi Petratos and Javier Hervas for the third midfield spot alongside mainstays Corona and Matt McKay.

Roar players out of contract: Brandon Borrello, Daniel Bowles, Devante Clut, Henrique, James Donachie, Javier Hervas, Jack Hingert, Steven Lustica, Jade North, Jean Carlos Solorzano, Shane Stefanutto, Jamie Young.
