Lyden suffers knee injury on final day

Young Australian Jordan Lyden has suffered a knee injury in Aston Villa’s final day Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday.

The 20-year-old, who broke into the Villa first team this campaign, looked to be in discomfort and had to be replaced on 75 minutes due to the injury.

Villa caretaker boss Eric Black confirmed after the game that Lyden “tweaked his meniscus” but said the injury required further assessment before knowing its full extent.

The Australia Under-20 international made six appearances for the relegated Villans in the 2015-16 season, having battled hamstring problems last year.

Lyden was unlikely to come into contention for the Socceroos’ upcoming Greece friendlies with Ange Postecoglou due to announce his squad on Tuesday morning.

Perth-born Lyden is uncapped at senior international level.
