Mabil misses out on Dutch move

Young Socceroos winger Awer Mabil will return to Adelaide United on Friday after an unsuccessful trial with Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam.

The Reds allowed Mabil to spend a week trialling with Ajax during the A-League’s Asian Cup break following interest from the Eredivisie club.

United confirmed to FourFourTwo that there has been no offer tabled by Ajax regarding Mabil’s services at this stage, nor any indication on how the trial went.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a breakout A-League season, netting three goals in 12 games, as well as a strike in the FFA Cup which the club lifted.

The Kenya-born winger reportedly drew interest from Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht, although he didn’t trial with them during his time in Europe.

Adelaide resumes its A-League on Saturday 24 January at home to Newcastle Jets.
