Manchester City prevail against Adelaide United

Premier League powerhouse Manchester City defeated Adelaide United 2-0 during a behind-closed-doors friendly at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast tonight.

Second half goals to Brandon Barker and Bruno Zuculini sealed the win for the visitors but the Reds were far from out-classed.

Two early chances almost saw Adelaide stun their more celebrated opponents when both Awer Mabil and Bruce Djite came close to scoring within the opening minutes.

As the half wore on City upped the intensity with their best chances falling to Samir Nasri, Kelechi Iheanacho and Jose Pozo.

It remained goalless at the break and both teams made a raft of changes.  Manchester City emerged from the sheds with a completely different line-up – debuts handed to Ellis Plummer, George Glendon and 18-year-old wonderkid Enes Ünal.

Barker opened his first team account and broke the deadlock on 63 minutes with a shot into the far corner.

The Reds enjoyed a good spell for the next 10 minutes before Jesus Navas came perilously close to doubling City’s advantage.

Craig Goodwin was denied a sublime solo equaliser on 82 minutes before Zuculini made it two for City, capitalising on a superb Gael Clichy cross.
