Mariners’ 17-goal salute to Hutchinson

A 17-goal thriller on Saturday night proved the perfect send-off for retiring Central Coast Mariners skipper John Hutchinson.

The #HutchTestimonial saw club legends, including former and current Socceroos, line up against the current squad.

By the end of the night the scoresheet read like a who’s who of the yellow and navy over the past decade.

Sasho Petrovski, Adam Kwasnik, Bernie Ibini, Andre Gumprecht, Rostyn Griffiths, Mile Sterjovski, Danny Vukovic, Dean Heffernan, Tom Slater, Fabio Ferreira and Hutchinson himself all scored on the big night.

Goalkeeper Liam Reddy bagged a hat trick but it was an even bigger night for one of the team’s most committed fans, Jake Banks, who made a cameo appearance to help Hutch’s XI to a massive 15-2 victory in front of a 3000 strong crowd at Pluim Park.

Other highlights included Brent Griffiths’ slide tackle on the MASTERFOODS Sauce bottle which earned him a red.

And Zac Anderson’s stint between the sticks before calling on a young ball boy to take the gloves.

The Mariners new skipper, Nick Montgomery, called a quick halt to play as he tucked into a spectator's hot chips.

While former Mariners goalkeeper, now Perth Glory custodian, Vukovic interviewed other players during the game and still managed to net a goal.

And of course a lap of honour for the man, the legend, John Hutchinson.

The club said photos, videos and all the content from #HutchTestimonial will be made available for fans in the coming days.

All in all a fitting farewell for 10 years of passion and commitment from the club legend, but certainly not the last goodbye. Hutchinson has joined the club’s coaching ranks as they look to revive their fortunes in 2015-16.
