Markelis finds new home at Hercules

Former Melbourne Victory forward Theo Markelis has left Racing Santander after just weeks with the club and joined fellow Spanish side Hercules Alicante.

Markelis had signed with Segunda Division B Group I club Racing Santander in October but left without making a senior appearance.

“Unfortunately Theo has had a few challenges since he arrived at the club and has decided to pursue other opportunities,” Markelis’ agent said.

Based in Alicante, Hercules CF are currently in 17th place in the Segunda Division, the league below the Primera Division.

Markelis is an attacking midfielder who has spent time playing overseas before. The Brunswick City and Green Gully junior joined Valencia as a 15-year old in 2007 and spent three seasons with the Spanish giants. He then spent time with Italian Serie B side Vicenza before heading to Melbourne Victory.

The 21-year old made six appearances for Victory during the 2012-2013 season.
