Moore: Socceroos aren’t getting carried away

Socceroo legend Craig Moore says the Australian team isn’t getting ahead of itself after dominant, back-to-back wins in the Asian Cup.

The Socceroos saw off Kuwait 4-1 in Melbourne and then crushed Oman 4-0 in Sydney. They have already qualified for the next stage and can top the group with a draw against South Korea.

Moore, who has an advisory role with the squad, said the Socceroos are confident without being arrogant.

“There’s been two very good performances, I think two very different performances,” he told FourFourTwo.

“I think in the first game maybe we were slightly nervous, which is to be expected in tournament mode. But very brave and showed great character sticking to a game plan, in the end being too strong.

“In the second game I think the tea, grew in confidence and put an even more complete performance in. Eight goals from eight different players.

“So look, good confidence and good momentum but were certainly not getting carried away with ourselves because every game does produce its challenges and this last game is the next step for this team.”

Moore said the mood of the Socceroo camp ahead of the South Korea match is very similar to the first two games.

“The boys are very relaxed without getting ahead of themselves. They’re working extremely hard in everything that they do in terms of their outputs in training but also their recovery, dietary stuff, their sleep.

“They’re covering all bases and thankfully so far in game one and game two we’ve executed the game plan. But more importantly we’ve put on an entertaining show for the fans because we’ve had fantastic support.”

Moore played in two World Cups for Australia and racked up 52 caps. The former defender says the Socceroos have no preference on who they will play in the Asian Cup quarter-finals.

“There’s no preference,” he said.

“We’ll have enough information on every team. We’re very confident without being arrogant in that if we tick all the boxes in terms of our preparation and doing our style, we think we’ve got a very good opportunity of winning games.”
