Melbourne City midfielder Aaron Mooy is unfazed by recent results ahead of Friday night’s semi-final clash against premiers Adelaide United.
City were defeated 2-0 the last time the two sides met in a match that proved crucial for clinching the premiership for the Reds. Speaking after his side defeated Perth Glory 2-0 to progress to the semi-final, Mooy remains confident City can beat any side on its day.
“They were on top of us like we were on top of Perth today,” Mooy said.
“We’ve already beaten them. If we play our best we can beat any team.”
City had a poor run of results coming into the finals series, having lost its last two games of the regular season, but the 25-year-old said the team is on its way to bouncing back.
“The last two weeks weren’t good enough,” he said.
“Tonight we showed just what we can do and it’s what we’ve gotta do for the rest of the season.”
Should Melbourne progress to the Grand Final, Mooy may come against his old side in Western Sydney Wanderers but the midfielder isn’t fussed who they’re playing, just as long as they’re there.
“I’ll take anyone in the Grand Final,” he said.
“Firstly it’s Adelaide and now that’s the main focus; the next big step.”comments
