Brisbane Roar got off their mark with a superb display against Newcastle Jets on Friday night. Check out what players got the best ratings.


MARK BIRIGHITTI – 6 Made plenty of great saves in the game and kept the Jets in the game in the first half with a great save from Borello, was unlucky to concede 4, could have been more if it wasn’t for his penalty save from Dimitri Petratos.

SAM GALLAGHER – 5 Very difficult game for the Jets and ordinary defensive performance from all.

ADRIAN MADASCHI – 5 Wasn’t a debut to remember for Madashi and Newcastle’s ordinary defence.

KEW JALIENS (C) – 4.5 Found it difficult to contain Solorzano in the first half, and was out of position on a numerous of occasions, especially for the first goal to Brisbane.

TAYLOR REGAN – 4.5 Allowed Henrique to run at him for the 3rd and 4th goal and was very ordinary in defence

BILLY CELESKI – 5 Playing his first game for Newcastle but lacked any support from his teammates.

BEN KANTAROVSKI – 4.5 Turned over the ball and also gave away a penalty.

ZENON CARAVELLA – 5 Offered nothing in midfield and was substituted early in the second half.

DAVID CARNEY – 7 Looked like the only player who could make something for Newcastle, and was the go to man for the Jets.

JOEL GRIFFITHS – 5 Quiet in the first half, didn’t link well with Montaro turning over the ball.

EDSON MONTANO – 4.5 Didn’t get the ball much in the first half but did well to hold onto it when he had it.






JAMIE YOUNG – 5 Had nothing to do for most of the game but did well when called upon.

SHANE STEFFANUTO – 7 Made plenty of runs down the left in the first half, and got in behind the defence and played a great ball to Henrique for the opening goal.

JADE NORTH – 7 Defended well along side Matt Smith totally difference performance from previous weeks.

DANIEL BOWLES – 7 Did well and made good runs along the right-hand side.

MATT SMITH – 7 Commanded the defence well and didn’t give the Jets anything, great clearance in first half from Carney which could have been a goal.

DIMITIRI PETRATOS – 7 Looked dangerous with his runs and passes had plenty of shots outside the area, missed a penalty after it was poorly taken.

STEVEN LUSTICA – 6.5 Played a brilliant 1-2 with Henrique and finished well past Birighitti.

LUKE BRATTAN – 8 Cracked some shots from well outside the box looked dangerous with plenty of well-placed passes to open up Newcastle defence.

BRANDON BORELLO – 6.5 Should have scored when one on one but for a great save from Birighitti, and also had another great opportunity but couldn’t find the net.

THOMAS BROICH – 7 Won a penalty although it wasn’t converted, played a great ball to Henrique for the 3rd goal

JEAN CARLOS SOLORZANO – 7 Was very energetic and made plenty of good runs, looked like he could have made a major impact until he was substituted after 35 minutes which looked like from injury.


HENRIQUE – 9 Man of the match after his hat-trick, came on after 35 minutes and made an impact when he finished from close range after a great ball from Steffanuto, played Lustica in for the 2nd goal. His 2nd goal came after a great break and took on Taylor Regan with a great finish. Finished off his hat-trick with a brilliant shot past Birighitti.


MENSUR KURTISHI – 6 Looked lively when he came on and had a great chance to snatch a goal but for a good save, played Henrique in for the 4th goal.
