Newcastle Jets vs Western Sydney Wanderers: Player Ratings

Marcos Flores cancelled out Tomi Juric's early goal to ensure the Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers shared the points. Griffin McMaster rates all the players' performances from today's 1-1 draw at Pirtek Stadium.

ANTE COVIC – 6.5 Did not have much to do in that second 45 minutes. Quiet game for the custodian.

MATTHEW SPIRANOVIC – 7 Seemed to sit a bit too deep on occasions but I think there’s something missing in Wanderers midfield that’s causing that.

DANIEL ALESSI – 6 Played 45 mins. Didn’t see a lot.

SHANNON COLE – 6 Got forward which was good but didn’t contain Carney well enough.

NIKOLAI TOPOR-STANLEY – 7 Back from international duty. Sound.

MATEO POLJAK – 6.5 Screened. Was good but sometimes didn’t do his job.

ROMEO CASTELEN – 6 played as a number ten behind the strikers. Not completely match fit…ok at best.

NIKITA RUKAVYTSYA – 8 Showed great pace, Jets couldn’t contain him. May have been injured? Precaution? Strong shift.

IACOPO LA ROCCA – 6 Might be time for Popovic to look for more creativity in the midfield.

VITOR SABA – 7 Good start with an early shot. Delivered the assist to the first goal.

TOMI JURIC – 7.5 superb side foot volley. Hit the post in the second half, had a good header, should have had a hat trick.

LABINOT HALITI – 5.5 On after 76 minutes.

BRENDAN HAMILL – 6.5 On halftime. Played right back. Got into the final third on some occasions.

MARK BRIDGE – 6 On after 58 minutes.

BEN KENNEDY – 7 Vision may have been blighted for the first goal. Made a save also just cleared off the line, not bad for a first match back.

ADRIAN MADASCHI – 7.5 Reurns from injury. Went down more times than in a WWE fight. Defensively good.

SAMUEL GALLAWAY – 6.5 nearly put one in his own net early days. Ok.

NICHOLAS COWBURN – 7 A-league debut and accounted ok.

KEW JALIENS – 7 got the run around a fair bit. Couldn’t deal with Rukavytsya’s pace.

BILLY CELESKI – 7 Was the glue in midfield for Jets. Good shift.

MARCOS FLORES – 7.5 Played well. Hit the crossbar in the first half and also got on the scoresheet.

ALLAN WELSH – 7.5 Looked quite solid again and hasn’t looked out of place.

JERONIMO NEUMANN – 6 Had some involvement but didn’t make too much of an impact.

DAVID CARNEY – 8 Set-up Jets’ first goal very well by picking out Flores. Was Newcastle’s best player.

ÉDSON MONTAÑO – 5 Had an open net but couldn’t score. Haven’t seen much.

ANDREW HOOLE – 6.5 On after 64 minutes. Played out on the left. Did his job well.

JOEL GRIFFITHS – 5 On after 68 minutes. Hardly got a touch on the ball.

JACOB PEPPER – N/A Came on after 78 minutes.
