No Victory, but Reid proud of his Suns
Victory avoided what would have been a huge upset by holding off a gallant Suns to win 3-2 in a memorable FFA Cup round-of-16 encounter at Jubilee Oval in Sydney.
“I’m really proud of the boys,” Reid told Fox Sports post-match.
.”We went into the game with a plan, we knew it would be tough but even in the first half, we went into half-time 1-0 down and I think we had the better chances.”
“We conceded at a really bad time. At the end of the day we can take a lot of faith out of the performance tonight from the boys.”
The final minutes of the match were exhilarating as the PS4 NPL Suns pushed Victory all the way with a series of corners.
The crowd went wild, willing an equaliser as keeper Ivan Necevski made his way into the visitors' box, but somehow the Victorian powerhouse were able to hold on.
And despite the loss the Suns fans were rapturous in their reaction to their heroes after the final whistle.
“They really stuck at it and didn’t give in," added Reid, a former Sydney FC player and NSL Championship winner with Wollongong.
"I've a lot of confidence in the boys for next season and I’m really proud of them."
