OS Aussies weekend wrap

There were mixed results for the Aussies playing overseas with some heavy losses in Germany but also some important goals in England and New Zealand.

In the EPL Mark Schwarzer was an unused substitute when Chelsea snared a late 1-0 win against Everton. Mile Jedinak had another full shift in Crystal Palace’s 0-2 against Manchester United. Brad Jones was an unused substitute again when Liverpool had an entertaining match against Swansea City. The match ended 4-3, taking Liverpool's tally for this season to 70 goals already. Chris Herd was absent in Aston Villa’s match squad (0-1 at Newcastle United).
In the League Championship Alex Cisak warmed the bench when Burnley won 3-1 against Nottingham Forest. Adam Federici was also an unused substitute when Reading lost 0-1 at home against Blackburn. Rhys Williams was missing due to his ruptured Achilles in Middlesbrough’s scoreless draw against Leeds United. Scott McDonald played 73 minutes while Shane Lowry played a full match when Millwall lost 0-1 at Barnsley.
In League One Preston North End recorded another win (2-1 at Colchester) with Bailey Wright playing a full match and Neil Kilkenny playing 76 minutes. Massimo Luongo played a full match when Swindon lost 2-0 at Leyton Orient. James Meredith was missing due to his broken foot when Bradford won 1-0 at home against Milton Keynes Dons. Oldham won against Gillingham with the same result and James Wesolowski playing a full match. Dean Bouzanis was not in Carlisle’s match squad in their 2-1 loss at home against Rotherham. Bradden Inman put his name on the scoresheet again helping Crewe to record a 3-1 win at Port Vale.
In League Two Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played a full match in Burton Albion’s loss at Bristol Rovers. Ryan Williams played a full match as well when Oxford had a 1-1 draw at Morecambe. Aaron Downes was an unused substitute in Torquay’s 1-0 loss at home against Accrington Stanley. Ben McNamara was not in the squad for Northampton Town when his team recorded a 2-0 win against Hartlepool.
In the Conference Premier Alex Baird was again left out in Gateshead’s match day squad (1-1 at Alfreton). Joshua Riis was also missing for Kidderminster in their 2-2 against Braintree. Lee Burns again played a full match when Dartford recorded their second win in a row. The 2-0 against Hereford means that the team gets closer to the safe spots in the table.
In the Conference North Adam Parkhouse was an unused substitute for Stalybridge Celtic when his team recorded a 1-1 against Brackley Town coached by Jon Brady.
In the FA Trophy Semifinals Mitchell Austin remained on the bench when Cambridge had a 1-1 draw at Grimsby which sees them advance to the final with an aggregate score of 3-2.
In Germany’s Bundesliga Robbie Kruse was still absent due to his torn ACL when Bayer Leverkusen had another nightmare after the 0-4 against St. Germain losing 1-3 at Wolfsburg. It wasn’t any better for Borussia Dortmund and Mitch Langerak when his team suffered an unexpected and heavy 3-0 loss in Hamburg where Langerak remained on the bench.
In the 2. Bundesliga in Germany Nikita Rukavytsya played a full match while Mathew Leckie played until half-time when FSV Frankfurt lost 0-2 at Union Berlin. Ben Halloran was missing due to a bruised hip he suffered in training while Fortuna Düsseldorf had a scoreless draw at Bochum.
In the German 3. Liga Borussia Dortmund’s second team won 2-0 against MSV Duisburg, but were without the services of Mustafa Amini who was still missing due to a bone bruise.
In the Regionalliga West Kwame Yeboah played in the first half when Borussia Mönchengladbach’s second team was thrashed by the second team of Bayer Leverkusen (5-0).
In Italy’s Serie B Carl Valeri played the last 14 minutes in Ternana Calcio’s 2-2 draw against Siena.
In the Italian Eccellenza Trentino Alto-Adige Josip Konyit played another full match for Trento Calcio in 2-1 win against San Martino.
In the Campionato Primavera in Italy Chris Ikonomidis was missing in Lazio’s Youth squad in a 3-1 win against Palermo Youth. Paul Katsetis was an unused substitute when Catania lost 3-2 at Fiorentina.
In the Primeira Liga in Portugal Caleb Patterson-Sewell was on the bench again in Gil Vicente’s 2-1 loss at Olhanense.
In the Dutch Eredivisie Trent Sainsbury was missing due to a fractured kneecap when PEC Zwolle drew 1-1 at home against Heracles Almelo where Jason Davidson played a full match. Eli Babalj was again not in the squad for AZ Alkmaar when they were without a chance in a 4-0 loss at Ajax. Tommy Oar played a full match while Adam Sarota played 82 minutes when Utrecht recorded a narrow 1-0 win against Groningen.
In the Dutch Eerste Divisie Harry Ascroft was an unused substitute while Travis Cooper was absent from the match squad when Venlo suffered a rare 2-0 home loss aginst SBV Excelsior. Andrew Marveggio was an unused substitute for Telstar in their 1-0 win at FC Oss.
In Topklasse Zondag Bryan Bran and FC Chabab had a nightmare with a 6-1 loss at Amsterdamsche FC with Bran playing 77 minutes before being substituted with a foot injury.
In Turkey’s SüperLig Kerem Bulut was again missing in Akhisar Belediyespor’s match squad in a 1-1 draw at Gaziantepspor.
In the 2. Lig Emre Balcı was an unused substitute for İnegölspor in their 3-0 win against Gaziosmanpasaspor.
In the 3. Lig Savas Özdemir was also an unused substitute for 1930 Bafraspor in their 3-2 loss at home against Kocaelispor.
In the Belgian Eerste Klasse Club Brugge celebrated a 5-2 win at Leuven with Mathew Ryan playing another full match.
In the Derde Klasse in Belgium Steve Pepper was not in the squad when FCV Dender had a scoreless draw against Standaard Wetteren.
In the Greek Superleague Apostolis Giannou played a full match for Panionios in their 2-1 win at Apollon Smyrni.
In the Greek Football League Voreios Giannis Simosis played the last 17 minutes in Anagennisi Karditsa’s 1-1 draw against Apollon Kalamaria.
In the Swiss Super League Dario Vidošić came on after half-time and scored a penalty but it was not enough to avoid defeat as FC Sion lost 3-1 at Thun. Oliver Bozanic played a full match when Luzern lost 2-1 at home against BSC Young Boys.
In the Cypriot First Division Robert Stambolziev scored an important goal helping AE Kouklion to a 2-1 win at Ethnikos Achnas.
In the Austrian Bundesliga James Holland played another full match when Austria Wien had a disappointing scoreless draw at Wolfsberger AC.
In the Croatian Prva Liga Tomislav Mrčela played another full shift in a narrow loss 1-0 against powerhorse Dinamo Zagreb. Steven Ugarković came on for the last 15 minutes when NK Osijek lost 1-0 at HNK Rijeka.
In the Scottish Premiership Curtis Good played a full match when Dundee United won 3-1 against Motherwell. Jackson Irvine had to warm the bench when Kilmarnock drew 1-1 with Hibernian FC. Dylan McGowan played a full match again when Hearts lost 2-0 at home against league leaders Celtic.
In the Scottish Championship Cowdenbeath recorded an important 2-0 win against Dundee FC with Sebastian Usai an unused substitute.
In the Premier League in Malta Charlie Fuller was missing in Balzan Youths’ match squad in their 3-1 loss at home against Birkirkara.
In Uruguay’s Primera División Richard Porta was missing again for Club Nacional when the team suffered their first loss of the Clausura, 2-0 against Danubio.
In the Arabian Gulf League in the UAE, the two Aussies met when Al Nasr beat Al Ain by 1-0 with both Al Nasr's Brett Holman and Al Ain's Alex Brosque playing all game.
In the UFL Division 1 in the Philippines, Jesse Martindale played 81 minutes when Green Archers United were without a chance in a 0-4 loss against Global Manila.
In the First Division League in Hong Kong, Andrew Barišić played 73 minutes when South China drew 2-2 against Sun Pegasus who were without Marko Ješić. Dylan Macallister played a full match for Eastern Salon in their 2-2 against Kitchee.
In the Thai Premier League Trent McClenahan made his debut with a good performance in PTT Rayong’s 1-1 draw at Singhtarua.
In the Thai Division 1 League Phil Stubbins's Ayutthaya started the season with a 1-1 against Ang Thong.
In the V.League in Vietnam, Sam Gallagher was missing due to suspension (3 yellow cards) when Hà Nội T&T lost 3-1 at Thanh Hóa.
In the S.League Woodlands Wellington coached by Darren Stewart started their season with a 2-2 draw at Hougang United.
In the Indian I-League Daniell Zelený remained on the bench for his new club Churchill Brothers after an exhausting travel odyssey. The Goan team recorded a remarkable 2-2 draw at Mohun Bagan in an entertaining match. Matthew Foschini played a full match for Salgaocar in their 1-0 win at Mohammedan SC. Sean Rooney played a full match for Bengaluru when they drew 1-1 at home against Mumbai. Simon Colosimo and Tolgay Özbey played full matches for Dempo, coached by Arthur Papas when they won 1-0 against East Bengal. Tolgay Özbey also scored the goal of the day in the 70th minute.
In the Indonesian Super League Michael Baird played 85 minutes when PSM Makassar had a 1-1 draw against Persiram Raja Ampat.
In the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer in the USA Tim Cahill played 68 minutes in NY Red Bulls 3-0 win at Montreal Impact.
In the USA Desert Diamond Cup Albert Edward played the last 20 minutes when Colorado Rapids snared a narrow 1-0 win against Real Salt Lake.
In the ASB Premiership in New Zealand George Slefendorfas was not in the squad for WaiBOP when they got hammered by Team Wellington for whom Jamie de Abreu was an unused substitute in his farewell match. Team Wellington will play in the Semifinals next week. Also in the Semifinals will be Richard Cardozo after Waitakere’s important 3-1 win against Canterbury which mean that both teams swap places and Waitakere clinching the fourth spot. Richie Cardozo also added the first two goals to the scoresheet.
In Vanuatu league leaders Amicale had a rare 1-1 draw against Tupuji Imere with Michael Rutherford between the posts. Amicale is coached by Nathan Hall.
