Pirlo linked with shock Sydney move

Juventus star Andrea Pirlo has been linked with a stunning move to Sydney FC.

The Australian reported on Monday that representatives from Australia were due to meet Pirlo’s agent in Milan yesterday to float the idea of playing in the A-League.

It said the Sky Blues were a candidate to sign the 36-year-old if he considered Australia.

However, MLS appears Pirlo’s most likely destination if he leaves Serie A champions and UEFA Champions League runners-up Juve.

Pirlo had reportedly accepted an offer to join New York City FC, the club of Frank Lampard and David Villa.

With Austria captain Marc Janko having departed, beaten grand finalists Sydney FC are searching for a marquee.

Pirlo was in tears after Juve’s 3-1 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League final on Sunday morning (AEST).

He is contracted with Juventus until June 2016.
