Reds duo have All Stars in their eyes

Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic and playmaker Marcelo Carrusca are the latest names added to the A-League All Stars team sheet.

The Reds duo will be reunited with club coach and All Stars mentor Josep Gombau after getting the nod from fans.

United skipper Galekovic, who was part of Ange Postecoglou’s World Cup squad, received the most votes of any A-League goalkeeper.

But his selection came as no surprise after 82 saves and 8 clean sheets last season helped him pick up his third A-League Goalkeeper of the Year award.

“It’s fantastic - coming off such a good season last year and wanting to continue that momentum gained from the World Cup,” the 33-year-old said.

"It will be fantastic to actually get some game time against some of the best players in the world, particularly with the upcoming LFP World Challenge match against (La Liga club) Malaga.”

Carrusca finds himself in the All Stars squad for the second straight year.

The sublimely-skilled Argentine had a direct hand in 10 of the Reds’ goals last season, scoring six and providing the assist for four others – his influence extending across the park.

The 30-year-old, who pulled the strings for the Reds in midfield, is in line to mix it against Juventus’ string of gifted players, such as Andrea Pirlo and Frenchman Paul Pogba.

“I am looking forward to playing against the Serie A champions and some of the best players in the world,” Carrusca said.

“I want to thank the fans for voting for me and for giving me another chance to play.”

The Reds duo join captain Alessandro Del Piero,  Josh Rose and Storm Roux (Central Coast Mariners) Sasa Ognenovski and Ali Abbas (Sydney FC), Tomi Juric and Matthew Spiranovic  (Western Sydney Wanderers), Besart Berisha and Gui Finkler (Melbourne Victory) and David Williams (Melbourne City).

The next contingent of players will be announced on Friday with the remainder to be revealed next week. Of the 20-player squad, 16 will be voted by fans while the remaining four are wild card picks by Gombau.

The team will face Juventus at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on August 10 with the match to be broadcast live and exclusive on the Seven Network nationally. For all the news on the Foxtel A-League All Stars, visit
