Reinjured Sainsbury hopeful of quick return

Socceroos hopeful Trent Sainsbury is expected to miss only one to two matches after scans revealed positive news following an ankle injury suffered in Zwolle's Eredivisie season opener.

Sainsbury underwent scans on Monday after he had to be replaced before the half-hour mark in Friday’s 2-0 win over Utrecht due to an ankle complaint.

The 22-year-old central defender received relatively positive news, with the scans revealing a minor tear in the ligament meaning he will miss one to two matches.

Sainsbury missed almost six months following a knee injury sustained on his Zwolle debut, coincidentally also against Utrecht.

The former Central Coast Mariner tweeted after Friday's game: “Ankle swollen and sore but hoping it will be fine with some rest, ice and tlc.”

Zwolle are next in action on Saturday against newly-promoted Dordrecht, before they take on Sparta Prague in the Europa League play-off round on the following Thursday.
