Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was impressed by Brisbane Roar and lauded the quality of Australian football after his side's 2-1 win.
Goals from Adam Lallana and James Milner helped the Premier League club to an unconvincing victory at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Dimitri Petratos had put the Roar ahead in the first half before Liverpool fought back.
Rodgers, whose team overcame Melbourne Victory 2-0 in 2013, praised John Aloisi's side.
"I thought it was an excellent game," he told host broadcaster, Channel Nine.
"Congratulations to Brisbane, the team and the supporters. I thought it was a brilliant atmosphere for a pre-season game to be in.
"I thought Brisbane showed again why Australian football is progressing all the time – wonderful technique, good movement, good structure to the team.
"Especially in the first half it was a real close game."
Milner scored the winner in the 75th minute via a deflected strike past impressive Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young.
Rodgers, who thanked fans in Brisbane, was delighted with his new recruit.
"I thought he was outstanding. He's a real infectious personality James, but he's also got great quality," he said.
"And you seen his game tonight, his ability to run, to press, to pass and obviously to create chances. I was very pleased.
"It was a good workout for us, especially at this stage of the season. It was exactly what we needed and I thought, in particular the second half, we played very well."comments
