Sydney cruise past Adelaide in NYL Grand Final

Sydney FC have clinched the NYL title with a crushing 5-2 win over Adelaide United in the Grand Final at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was the first year for the new-look youth league which pitted Conference A winners (Adelaide) against Conference B winners (Sydney) in an open and entertaining contest.

And it was the Sky Blues who lifted the trophy for the third time.

The harbour-siders were dominant throughout, with standout performances from Sydney's mature age rookie, Alex Mullen, who scored a brace and Max Burgess.

The Sky Blues had one hand on the trophy by half-time.

Mullen (12') opened the scoring for Sydney and Christopher Zuvela (24') doubled the advantage as Robert Stanton's lads piled on the pressure.

A wicked curling corner saw the Reds claw one back through a Jacob Tratt own goal (32').

But Burgess (39') soon restored Sydney's two-goal buffer.

Sydney were looking comfortable at 3-1 going into the break and on target for their third NYL crown.

And it didn't take them long to add to their tally.

Mullen (49') brought up his brace before Cristian Gonzalez (55') fired in a cracker.

From the corner, he curled in the ball over the head of goalkeeper Daniel Margush and straight in at the far corner for the Sky Blues' fifth.

Adelaide were brave and never let their heads drop - and were rewarded when Samed Altundag capitalised on a defensive error just on the hour to fire past Sydney goalkeeper Anthony Bouzanis to bring up the Reds second.

Sydney FC 5 (Mullen 12', 49', Zuvela 24', Burgess 39', Gonzalez 55')

Adelaide United 2 (Tratt og 32', Altundag 60')
