Sydney FC have wrapped up the signing of Slovakian international Filip Holosko on a two-year marquee deal.
The Sky Blues secured the signature of the 31-year-old forward from Turkish giants Besiktas
Holosko joined the Black Eagles in 2008, scoring a total of 42 goals in 144 games. He was loaned to Superlig outfit Caykur Rizespor last season before being released.
The Slovakian takes Sydney's international marquee spot following the departure of Austrian striker and last season's A-League Golden Boot, Marc Janko.
Head Coach Graham Arnold is confident the Slovak will fill the void left by speedster Bernie Ibini, who signed with Club Brugge in the off-season.
"Filip is a multi-functional player who can play anywhere across the front-line," Arnold said.
"After having to replace Bernie Ibini, he fitted the requirements of what I was looking for.”
Arnold added that Holosko would bring the firepower the Sky Blues needed for another assault on the A-League title.
"He comes with a top pedigree having played for a massive club in Turkey and brings a lot of international experience to the squad.
"He has the style of a strong and fast player who I am sure will excite the Sydney FC fans.
"He's also at a great age and is hungry for success.”
Holosko has played in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup competitions for Besiktas and comes with a vast array of international experience after 65 caps for Slovakia.
He will link up with his new teammates in the harbour city at the start of August along with fellow new international Milos Ninkovic.
Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow welcomed the signing.
"I am delighted to be able to announce Filip Holosko as our international marquee for the next two years," Barlow said.
"The signing of Holosko is the latest in a long list of first class marquee players to have worn the Sydney FC shirt.
"Graham Arnold was very specific in type of attacking player he wanted to bring to Sydney FC, he has found that in Filip and we are delighted to have been able to secure him for the club.
"We look forward to welcoming Filip to Sydney in early August and to watching him play a major role in our bid to become A-League Champions in 2015/16 and 2016/17."comments
