Snapshot from Brazil: Painting the town… yellow?!

When the townfolk get together in Brazil, they brandish paintbrushes…

Local residents – and local businesses – create the street-art and colour that is everywhere in Brazil. It takes around three weekends, and a lot of paint, to get residential streets in the mood.

“In the first weekend we gathered the money. In the following two we planned and painted it all,” says São Paulo resident 17-year-old Jéssica. “It costs very little, this is only once every four years!”

The streets shown are all close to Arena Corinthians and are decorated with thousands of flags from around the world and ribbons in the air. Even the humblest streets are beautifully decorated – some scream green and yellow; others are subtle.

Brazil’s streets are always full of colour but this tournament has sent it into overdrive. Sony's Xperia™ Z1 Compact creative picture effects let you capture every shock of colour in all its glory, along with giving them an extra boost. Here, the Vivid mode brings out bright colours…

It’s been a tradition since the 1950s to hang flags across the streets. We’ve used the Nostalgic effect to make it look timeless.
