FFT's Five Finds: OKS' chance to build a legacy

Southeast Asia had plenty of talking points this weekend, as the S.League title race is kept alive while Malaysia enjoyed some much-needed reprieve...

Ong Kim Swee has a chance to show Malaysia how good a coach he is

On the face of it a trip to the wide open expanses of the southern oceans seems to be a move in the opposite direction from where the team needs to go.

Malaysia should really be playing better teams that Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia and Fiji and  it is not surprising that coach Ong Kim Swee has been building up the opposition.

But the results don't matter too much right now (as long as they are not too bad), because it is about spending time with the players in a pleasant environment with little pressure. There are almost three weeks with the team, training, playing and planning.

This could be the pivotal period for the coach's time in charge. If he gets it right in the next few weeks then he can lay the foundations for better times ahead. He knows the players already. Now. he has an opportunity to build his team and he has to take it.
