Who did well and who did not? Lee Seng Foo assesses the individual performances of the Malaysia XI side that grabbed a 1-1 draw with Liverpool...
Khairul Azhan Khalid – 8/10
Although he was unable to keep out Jordon Ibe’s screamer in the 28th minute, the Pahang custodian was excellent throughout the match, saving every attempted shot on goal. He also made himself big on two occasions to prevent Jordan Henderson and Divock Origi from successfully chipping the ball over him.
Zamir Selamat – N/A
The Perak goalkeeper unfortunately did not feature in the match due to the excellence of Khairul Azhan Khalid.
Razman Roslan – 6/10
The captain looked slightly uncomfortable in the right-back position in the first half, but he played better in the second half before coming off for Yong Kuong Yong.
Zubir Azmi – 6/10
Zubir arguably had the toughest job of the night as he had to mark Jordon Ibe, Liverpool’s most dangerous player on the pitch. The Terengganu left-back made a few good tackles and put in a good shift.
Thiago Junior – 9/10
Thiago had possibly the finest match of his career, sweeping and clearing everything that came his way. His partnership with Vincent Bikana was excellent as well as the duo were the only outfield players to play the whole 90 minutes and kept Divock Origi in check.
Vincent Bikana – 8/10
Just like Thiago Junior, Bikana had a commanding physical presence throughout the game. He most memorably made a brilliant tackle on Divock Origi to deny the Liverpool striker a clear goal-scoring chance in the 49th minute as well as blocking Adam Lallana’s goal-bound effort on the hour mark.
Nazirul Naim Che Hashim – 3/10
The replacement for Zubir Azmi in the closing stages of the match, Nazirul had a few opportunities to attack and run down the wing as Liverpool pushed forward trying to get the winning goal.
Yong Kuang Yong – 2/10
The Penang defender came on for Razman Roslan with eight minutes to go, but he seemed nervous with the occasion and made a few minor mistakes.
