How did members of the national team react to the Suzuki Cup draw held recently in Myanmar? Shock? Happiness? FourFourTwo spoke to them to find out...
The 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup draw placed Malaysia in Group B alongside co-host Myanmar, Vietnam and a qualifier, thus avoiding the group of death that defending champions Thailand have found themselves in.
FourFourTwo spoke to several member of the Tigers squad to hear their thoughts on Tuesday’s draw.
Ahmad Hazwan Bakri
What do you think of being drawn with Vietnam, Myanmar and a qualifier?
Being in the same group with Myanmar and Vietnam is not going to be easy but I’m sure coach Ong Kim Swee will come with good strategies so that we finish in the top two of Group B.
How could you rate Malaysia compared to the other teams?
We are capable of giving the other teams a tough fight and if I’m given the responsibility of representing Malaysia, I’ll do it with great honour and strive to ensure good results for the country.
Who are the favourites in the group?
Of course Vietnam ... but we can’t take Myanmar lightly. They are the hosts and have been difficult to get past in previous matches I played against them in age-group tournaments.
How important is AFF Suzuki Cup for you?
It’s a prestigious trophy in this region and every Southeast Asian country wants it, which is what makes it special. My target is to repeat the 2010 success Malaysia had.
